This session, AB 488/SB 474 was signed into law as 2025 Wisconsin Act 178, giving Wisconsin fire departments another option when purchasing fire suppression products through existing state grant funding.

The law allows departments to use DNR fire suppression grant funds toward soybean-based, PFAS-free fire suppression products. It’s a practical step toward reducing the use of “forever chemicals” while supporting Wisconsin agriculture and giving our firefighters another tool to protect their communities.

I’m proud to have authored legislation that brings together firefighter safety, environmental responsibility, and Wisconsin agriculture—and even better, it does so by making use of an existing grant program.
