Landfill of North Iowa The Landfill of North Iowa is more than just a place to take your trash! Per capita fee paid by entity - $1.35 annually. and $1.70/cwt over 1000 lbs.

Opened July 26, 1971
Subtitle D permitted MSW landfill with one clay lined cell and four synthetic lined cells with leachate collection systems for current disposal.
29 Member entities (each entity has appointed board member) – Cerro Gordo and Franklin Counties and communities plus Klemme, Garner, Forest City, Joice, Hanlontown, Northwood, Kensett, Manly, Grafton, and Nora Springs. Wright County

transfers waste, but is not a member. Service Area Population – Members - 68,597 and Wright County - 14,334
Daily tonnage average – 400 tons/day
Pricing:
Current tipping fee - $35.00/ton
Vehicles with trailers - $35/ton minimum. Cars, pickups, vans, minivans - $17.00 minimum for the first 1000 lbs. Municipal yardwaste/brush - $17.50/ton
Residential yardwaste (grass clippings and leaves) - $5/load
Residential brush - $17.50/ton (minimum)
Clean Grindable Woodwaste - $17.50/ton
Appliances - $8.00/each
TV/Monitor/CRT/Stand Alone Copier - $13.00/each
Printers/Desktop copier - $4.00/each
Animals - $35/ton

🔥 Rechargeable Batteries & Landfill Fires in Iowa 🔥

Did you know that improperly disposed rechargeable batteries are a leading cause of landfill and recycling facility fires across Iowa?

Lithium-ion batteries (found in phones, laptops, power tools, toys, and more) can spark or explode when crushed or damaged in trash trucks and landfills. These fires put workers, first responders, and communities at risk, and they can cause serious environmental damage.

🚫 Please don’t throw rechargeable batteries in the trash or recycling bin.

✅ Proper Disposal Matters:

Take rechargeable batteries to local battery recycling drop-off locations.

Many hardware stores, electronics retailers, and recycling centers accept them.

Tape the battery terminals before drop-off to reduce fire risk.

A few extra minutes to dispose of batteries correctly can help prevent fires, protect workers, and keep Iowa communities safe. Let’s do our part! ♻️💚
