That's a wrap on the Clayton Police Department's 2026 Teen Academy - Session 1!

On the final day, participants put their skills to the test during traffic scenarios before celebrating a great week with our School Resource Officers at Rainbow Lanes.

The academy ended with a graduation ceremony where 17 students received certificates recognizing their hard work and participation throughout the week and also received a special treat from Kona Ice of Clayton.

We hope each student leaves with great memories and a better understanding of what law enforcement officers do every day to serve our community. Most of all, we hope they know that the Clayton Police Department is here to support them.

Congratulations to all our graduates, and we're looking forward to Session 2 next month!

The Clayton Police Department's 2026 Teen Academy has given students plenty to talk about over the last two days.

Participants put their detective skills to work during crime scene exercises and interactive scenarios, where they followed clues, examined evidence, and learned what it takes to investigate a case.

The group also hit the road to explore the criminal justice system throughout Johnston County. From the courthouse and District Attorney's Office to the county jail and communications center, students got a firsthand look at the many steps and people involved when a case moves through the system.

The Clayton Police Department's 2026 Teen Academy is officially underway! Students kicked off the program with a behind-the-scenes look at how the Police Department serves our community.

Day 1 included a tour of the department, an introduction to investigations, a drone demonstration, and several hands-on learning opportunities.

One of this year's highlights was the addition of self-defense training... the first time it has been offered as part of the Teen Academy. The session gave students the chance to learn practical safety skills while building confidence in a fun and engaging environment.

Programs like Teen Academy help make law enforcement more relatable by giving students the opportunity to ask questions, learn new skills, and connect with the officers who serve our community.

We're excited to share more highlights from this year's Teen Academy in the days ahead.

The scorebook says one thing, but the smiles, laughter, and good-natured ribbing between teams told the real story of this year's Battle of the Badges.

Members of the Clayton Police Department and Clayton Fire Department spent the afternoon enjoying some friendly competition at East Clayton Community Park following the Clayton Clovers game.

Congratulations to Clayton Fire, which took home the trophy once again with a 23-2 victory.

Most importantly, the event helped support Paddling for Pennies and its mission to assist first responders, active-duty military members, and veterans experiencing hardships.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support both teams and make this year's Battle of the Badges another memorable event.

Now that school is out and our courts are becoming busier, we'd like to share a few important reminders regarding the tennis and pickleball courts located behind the Clayton Community Center. These courts are provided for recreational play and are intended for active use by participants. Loitering, congregating in non-playing groups, and activities unrelated to court use are not permitted. For a full list of court rules, please review the rules posted on-site.

Additionally, organized tournaments, leagues, clinics, or other large group events may not be conducted on the courts without prior authorization from Clayton Parks and Recreation. This helps ensure fair access and availability for all community members.

The event benefits Paddling for Pennies, which provides emotional, physical, and financial support to first responders, active-duty military members, and veterans experiencing hardships.

The Clayton Police Department extends its congratulations to Nicole Russotto for winning the Carolina Hurricanes hockey stick raffle!

We also appreciate the support shown by everyone for our Special Olympics fundraising efforts this year. As a reminder, our local business bundle raffle is still active and will remain active until September. Tickets can be purchased online or in person.
