2023-2024 CCSWCD Tree Giveaway Registration Open till Friday September 22th

The Clay County Soil & Water Conservation District will kick off the 2023-2024 Tree/Shrub Giveaway. Our Goal is 2,024 trees in 2024.
There is a limit of 10 trees/shrubs per household/business. The event is open to all households and businesses in Clay County.
Requests will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis until funds have been depleted. Registration will be taken from now until Friday, September 22, 2023. Trees are ordered this fall and participants will be notified in the spring when they are ready for pickup. Pickup date ranges from February through May and are dependent on weather and the nursery.

The seedlings are being ordered from Vallonia State Nursery, whose mission is to grow and distribute to Indiana landowners high-quality plant materials for conservation planting. Conservation plantings include plantings for timber, windbreaks, wildlife food and habitat, watershed and soil protection, reclamation and education.
The following species have been selected for this year’s giveaway:
1. Elderberry
2. Ninebark
3. Pawpaw
4. Shellbark Hickory
5. Shumard Oak
6. White Pine
Please note that if the requested species are not available at the time of ordering, then an available species will be selected.

We have found that anyone that had a penalty billed to their water account was billed for that penalty instead of their actual bill when we had to estimate bills. We apologize for this, but it was out of anyone’s control. I have corrected those customer accounts that this was an issue with. We will be reaching out to our software company to address the issue of it giving inaccurate readings so this does not happen again. Again, we apologize.

Attention water customers: this months bills went out yesterday as scheduled. However, due to late and inaccurate readings, we had to estimate the bills. Also, as reminder, if your bill hasn’t arrived by the 10th, please call or message us to find out your balance. The bills are due the 15th and a late fee is charged the 16th.

If you are a registered Republican voter, living within the Clay City city limits, please read. All candidates for Clerk Treasurer are Republicans and a town convention will be held to see who will be on the ballot for the November election.

It has been brought to our attention that some water customers have not received bills yet. They were mailed out on the 1st. They are due the 15th. So, if you have not got yours, please pm us or call to find out what your bill amount is.
