Per TXDOT, please avoid the intersection of Hwy 207 and FM 1151 today, April 1st. Linemen will be working to change out the poles at this intersection. There will be workers present all day, and we would appreciate all citizens being aware of their presence. There will be signs and flaggers, but the intersection may be shut down intermittently for short periods while this work is completed.

The City of Claude recently made a post regarding the Armstrong County Sheriff’s Office and the enforcement of a city ordinance related to golf carts. In a public comment, it was stated that “they have our ordinances so we are hopeful things will change.”

As your Sheriff, I want to address this directly.

The Armstrong County Sheriff’s Office is always willing to work with the City of Claude and we will certainly do our best to remain diligent regarding the golf cart issue. The safety of our children and the public is important to all of us.

At the same time, our deputies respond daily to a wide range of calls and responsibilities across Armstrong County—many of which involve urgent situations that must take priority. Because of this, we also rely on our community to help by making good decisions and looking out for one another.

Parents and guardians play an important role in this. Allowing children under the age of 15 without a driver’s permit to operate golf carts within the city can create safety concerns for both the child and the public, especially with the increase in traffic during certain hours of the day. We ask that citizens help us by exercising good judgment and ensuring that golf carts are being operated responsibly and in accordance with the city ordinance.

Claude has always been a community where neighbors look out for each other. If we all do our part—law enforcement and citizens alike—we can keep our children safe while allowing our deputies to focus on the most serious issues facing our county.

We have reports of blowing dust across Hwy 287 near Goodnight and continuing east to the Armstrong/Donley line that reduces visibility to almost zero. Please be aware of this area if you’re traveling east of Claude.
Other areas of concern are FM 1151 near CR5 and the Washburn area across Hwy 287.

We are EXTREMELY thankful for our volunteer firefighters and those who work in the background to keep calm in chaos.
Here is a way to support them if you’re interested.

This past week, long hours, heavy smoke, and dangerous conditions don’t slow our first responders down—but they do take a toll.

Current donation needs for our First Responders:
• Single-use vials of eye drops
• Gatorade or Liquid IV (single-serving powder sticks)

• Monetary donations (cash or Venmo) ... monetary donations have been especially helpful with truck repair costs
* mail to: PO Box 523 / Claude, TX 79019
* directly at Citizens Bank for ACFD
* Venmo information below

If you’re able to help, even one item would be greatly appreciated.

📍 Drop-off Options:
• Armstrong County Courthouse — EMC’s Office (Basement)
• Call EMC Bobby Wilkerson at 806-690-2915 to arrange drop-off at one of the ACFD stations

Your support—whether through supplies, prayers, or encouragement—means more than you know. This is neighbors helping neighbors, the way it’s always been done.

Thank you for standing behind those who stand on the front lines.
