**EXTREME FIRE DANGER**

The wildfire danger is EXTREME today and will stay there until we get significant rainfall!

The US Forest Service states that during times of extreme fire danger fires will start and spread rapidly. Every fire has the potential to become large, and extreme and erratic fire behavior should be expected. NO OUTDOOR BURNING SHOULD TAKE PLACE IN AREAS WITH EXTREME FIRE DANGER.

Any fires today have the potential to get out of control and grow rapidly with forecasted wind gusts near 30 MPH. There is no burn ban in place at this time, but we HIGHLY DISCOURAGE any burning until we get significant rainfall and the fire danger decreases.

Last night we held our annual Christmas Dinner at Station 17. This dinner is our time to recognize and thank our firefighters for everything they do throughout the year. We also present our yearly awards at this dinner. This years awardees are FF Joseph Gendreau-FF of the Year, and FF Malachi Duncan-Chiefs Award for Excellence. FF Gendreau was chosen by his peers for his dedication to duty and consistent exceptional effort. FF Duncan was chosen by District Chief Kroll and Assistant District Chief O’Brien for his exceptional service and his willingness to go well above and beyond what is asked of him. Congratulations to this year’s awardees and a Merry Christmas to all!

This year we are participating in the Keep the Wreath Green campaign. We will have a wreath on the front of our station from today through January 1st. It will start with 25 green lights. A green light will be replaced with a red light for every residential fire we have in our primary response area. The goal is to keep it green through the entire holiday season. We will be sharing holiday themed home fire safety tips throughout the season to help achieve this goal.

Last week we received our new gear lockers from GearGrid. Our members spent two days removing our old plywood lockers, cleaning the apparatus bay, assembling, and installing the new lockers. These lockers were purchased with money raised from our mail out fundraiser this past summer. Thank you for your donations that made this possible! This is a significant upgrade that vastly improves our ability to care for our gear and make life a little easier and more efficient for our firefighters!

Yesterday some of our members conducted training on truck company operations. Truck company ops includes forcible entry, primary/secondary search, victim rescue, and ventilation. The primary focus of yesterday’s training was primary search, victim rescue, and aerial apparatus placement. We trained multiple scenarios including one and two story single family homes and multi-level apartment buildings. Thank you to our firefighters for dedicating yourselves to tough, realistic training and making yourselves better at everything you do.
