This Memorial Day, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office honors the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

We would also like to recognize the family members of some of our Sheriff’s Office staff who gave their lives defending our nation.

Sergeant Clarence Mitchell, grandfather of Deputy Eugenia Williams, was killed in action during the Vietnam War in 1966 while serving with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, U.S. Army.

Sergeant Dwain Rasmussen, great uncle of Cadet Deputy Steven Holst, lost his life during WWII when his B-17 aircraft went down over the English Channel. He served as a waist gunner with the 385th Bombardment Group, 551st Squadron, U.S. Air Force.

These men, along with so many others, gave everything for our freedom. Please join us in honoring and remembering them this Memorial Day.

Alcohol Linked to 1 in 5 Boating Deaths:
Operation Dry Water

Memorial Day Weekend Approaching
Summer Boating Safety Tips

Alcohol is responsible for 1 in 5 boating deaths in the United States where the primary cause is known, and Operation Dry Water is urging boaters to stay sober as Memorial Day weekend approaches. The national campaign, coordinated by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA), is reinforcing the importance of sober boating during National Safe Boating Week, a nationwide effort to promote boating safety ahead of the busy summer boating season.

Operation Dry Water is a year-round national boating safety awareness and enforcement campaign focused on preventing boating under the influence (BUI). The campaign reminds recreational boaters that impaired boating is impaired driving, and operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol or drugs is both dangerous and illegal.
