Today, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Tennessee proudly recognizes the outstanding women who serve our agency and our community.

Across every bureau of our Sheriff’s Office, women serve with courage, professionalism, compassion, and dedication. From patrol and investigations to corrections, school safety, courts, dispatch, administration, and leadership, their contributions are essential to our mission and the success of our organization.

We also want to recognize Chief Deputy Stephanie Morlock, who is the first female Chief Deputy in the history of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Her leadership represents an important milestone for our agency and serves as an example to women throughout our profession and to the next generation of law enforcement leaders.

Northeast Middle School Incident Update

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee — Montgomery County School Resource Officers have continued their investigation into the lockdown incident that occurred earlier this morning at Northeast Middle School.
Updated information indicates that a physical altercation occurred between two students in a gymnasium locker room. Following the altercation, a bystander reported to a school administrator that they had seen a firearm. Based on that report, the administrator initiated a lockdown as a precautionary measure.
School Resource Officers and investigators immediately began identifying and interviewing student witnesses and conducting searches for the reported weapon. At this time, law enforcement has received no additional reports of a firearm being seen, and no weapon has been located.
The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. School Resource Officers and investigators will continue to follow up on all available information and thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
The school is no longer on a hold, and classes have resumed.

Clarksville, Montgomery County, TN:
Law enforcement units and first responders have responded to Northeast Middle School in response to lockdown implemented by a member of school staff.

Initial reports indicate that the lockdown was initiated due to a fight between multiple students. The Montgomery County School Resource Officers are investigating the matter with assistance from the Clarksville Police Department and CMCSS. The school remains on a Hold.

Our investigation has concluded that a shooting has not taken place . Our deputies are continuing their investigation and will remain on scene for the safety of students and staff.

Further updates should be release from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation and claimed the lives of thousands of innocent people.

Even after 25 years, many of us can still remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when we first heard the news. We remember the shock, the uncertainty, and the heartbreak that followed. We also remember the courage and selflessness displayed by so many in the days that followed.

Today, we pause to remember and honor those who lost their lives, including the first responders who ran toward danger to help others. We also remember the families, friends, and communities who continue to carry their loss.

Remember. Honor. Never Forget.

In observance of Labor Day, the administrative offices of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will be closed tomorrow. The Records Division will remain open.

While our administrative offices are closed, our deputies remain on duty 24/7, ready to answer the call and serve the citizens of Montgomery County.

Sheriff Mike Oliver and members of his administration met with Clarksville-Montgomery County School System leadership and representatives from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security at the CMCSS Security Operations Center to discuss school safety, emergency preparedness, and interagency coordination.

“School safety requires constant communication, preparation, and cooperation,” Chief Morlock said. “We are committed to working with CMCSS, the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security, and our public safety partners to address current and emerging threats.”

The meeting included a review of existing safety measures, emergency response coordination, and opportunities to strengthen school security throughout Montgomery County.

School Resource Officers remain an important part of the Sheriff’s Office’s school safety strategy. In addition to providing law enforcement services and an immediate response capability, SROs build relationships with students and staff and serve as trusted resources within the school community.

“Our School Resource Officers are present in our schools every day, building relationships while remaining prepared to respond when needed,” Assistant Chief Horton said. “We are grateful for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to our schools.”

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will continue working with CMCSS, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, and other public safety partners to evaluate vulnerabilities, improve communication, and strengthen emergency preparedness.

“We cannot become complacent when it comes to protecting our children,” Sheriff Oliver said. “We will continue evaluating, training, and working with our partners to keep our schools as safe and secure as possible.”

This morning, Sheriff Mike Oliver held a formal swearing-in ceremony recognizing several members of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as they begin new assignments.

Stephanie Morlock was sworn in as Chief Deputy, Elijah Horton was sworn in as Assistant Chief Deputy of Enforcement, and Kelley Potter was sworn in as a Sergeant in our Uniformed Patrol Division.

Please congratulate Chief Deputy Morlock, Assistant Chief Deputy Horton, and Sergeant Potter on their new assignments. We wish them continued success as they take on these new leadership roles and responsibilities.

I-24 EB is currently shut down due to a Car Hauler on fire, between Exit 11 Off-Ramp and the On-Ramp. All traffic is being directed off to HWY 76 at this time
