On April 15, 13-year-old Mawuena and 16-year-old Trey were walking home from school when they noticed smoke coming from a home on S. Senseney Circle. While others continued driving by, Mawuena made the decision to call 911.

Although the fire resulted in a heartbreaking loss, their actions showed maturity, awareness, and courage. Calling 911 when something doesn’t look right can make a difference, and we are proud of both of them for stepping up and doing the right thing.

Chief Montgomery recognized Mawuena and Trey for their actions and presented them with a Mayor’s Coin on behalf of Mayor Joe Pitts. We appreciate these two young people for being willing to step up and take action.👏
