Bee Positive and Bee the Change!

Establishing pollinator habitat can be rewarding both atheistically and environmentally. Ensuring pollinators have access to a mix of plants that bloom year round is crucial to address the needs of pollinators. Native forbs are the biggest component of these pollinator mixes and require precise site preparation and management to ensure success in the first years of growth.

This land has a CERTIFIED CONSERVATION PLAN!

After 28 years active duty, and 3 years as a JROTC director, Mike Taliento put on a different pair of boots. What began as a small endeavor in 2011, has now grown to include 30 head of cattle and a few adopted Mustang horses from the Bureau of Land Management with his wife, Tamela on 49 acres along the Big McAdoo Creek watershed.

Mike has utilized technical advice and funding assistance via Montgomery’s Soil & Water Conservation District, to create a certified conservation plan to install practices that maintain soil health and improve water quality while increasing quality pasture management.

As a beginning farmer, Mike reseeded pastures for 3 years to create a healthy rotational grazing system. He installed thousands of feet of exclusion fence to keep cattle from streams and provided freshwater watering facilities with heavy use areas and pipeline to provide clean drinking water.

Additionally, he has reformatted large gully erosion using logs and grading to make dams and control erosion, using this as a temporary feeding area and is currently working towards improvement of timber stand on forested areas.

Mike has demonstrated integrity in quality land operations even without program guidance, which highlights his dedication to the conservation of his land. PROUD TO GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH THIS MONTGOMERY FARMER!

Livestock watering facilities completed in the Barton's Creek Lower watershed!
Watering facilities are used to supply improved water quality and quantity to livestock. Strategically placing waterers, in combination with a rotational grazing plan, improves distribution and grazing efficiencies.

USDA is maximizing disaster assistance support to producers by issuing a second Supplemental Disaster Relief Program payment to eligible producers. Initial payments were factored by 35% and the payment factor is increasing to 70%, meaning producers with approved applications will receive an additional 35% of their calculated payment.

Additionally, producers have more time to apply. The April 30 deadline has been extended to Aug. 12, 2026, for Stage 1 and Stage 2. Future payments will be made using a 70% payment factor. https://www.fsa.usda.gov/news-events/news/04-24-2026/usda-issues-second-supplemental-disaster-payment-farmers-extends
