Reminder: College and Career Night
THIS WEDNESDAY (September 9, 2026)
5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
📍Austin Peay State University Foy Center

CMCSS 11th and 12th-grade students and families are invited to the annual CMCSS College and Career Night. Held at the APSU Foy Center, the event gives students the opportunity to speak with representatives from colleges, technical schools, military recruiters, and more.

The event will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and is FREE to attend.

Dr. Luna-Vedder welcomed Sheriff Oliver to the CMCSS Security Operations Center (SOC) during his first week as Montgomery County's new sheriff. CMCSS is grateful to have over 60 School Resource Officers (SROs), SRO Investigators, and SRO leaders who collaborate with the CMCSS Safety and Health Department to provide guidance, support, and security across all schools. Our SROs bridge gaps between law enforcement and youth and work diligently to keep our schools safe.

CMCSS and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office have a strong partnership, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen school safety under Sheriff Oliver's leadership. Friday Wrap-up: Elementary Edition

Pre-K through 5th-grade students and their teachers have been B-U-S-Y this week! Here's what we were excited to see across the district.

✏️ At Barksdale Elementary School, students were perfecting their penmanship. Students enjoyed the writing prompts and creative writing exercises.
☕ Kenwood Elementary staff enjoyed snacks during appreciation breaks this week!
🐯 The EMES Clarksville, TN Tigers were loving their mascot visit during the AR Pep Rally!
🌳 The Mighty Oaks kindergarteners were mastering their math stations at Minglewood Elementary!
🔬 Montgomery Central Elementary makes learning fun on Fridays! The students were enjoying the hands-on labs.
🍁 Congratulations to Oakland Elementary for becoming an official "Tree Campus." The team arranged for multiple trees to be planted throughout our community.
🦋 Ringgold Elementary students had their own observation labs as they studied the butterfly life cycle.
📚Kirkwood Elementary School took their learning vertical! The school shared that, "Giving students space to think, talk, write, and learn from one another builds confidence, strengthens academic language, and makes their thinking visible." The first graders loved the work!

Friday Wrap-up: Middle and High Edition 😎

Celebrations, school spirit, and big wins were the theme for our middle and high school students, faculty, and staff this week!

🎓 Kirkwood Middle celebrated National College Colors Day by proudly wearing shirts and jerseys representing their favorite colleges and universities.

🔬Our 7th-grade science students at Richview Middle explored chemical and physical changes in matter through hands-on stations and experiments!

🤖 Congratulations to the Kenwood JROTC Robotics Teams who blew away the competition at the State Fair Robot Rodeo.

🍕 Our Kirkwood High Cobras created Cell Pizzas to bring cell structures to life in biology class.

🏈 This win was well deserved! Congrats to the Northwest Vikings, who played a gritty game full of heart to beat Wilson Central in overtime, their first 2-0 start since 2019.

🎭 More celebrations are in order! Rossview High School Theatre Director, LuEllyn Boyer Wilcox, was honored this past weekend as the recipient of the THSSDL KRIDER AWARD at the annual state conference in Franklin, TN.

Elementary Parent-Teacher Conferences Thursday, September 10 and Thursday, September 24

CMCSS Elementary Schools will host Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences two days in September. You do not need to attend both days. These conferences are a great way to connect with your child's teacher and collaborate on ways to support learning at home and in the classroom.

➡ All elementary schools will have representatives from the Special Populations Department on-site to answer questions, provide resources, and connect families with opportunities for their child. No appointment is necessary to meet with the Special Pops team.

Wondering what you should ask during your time? Here are a few options:

Special Populations Representatives at Elementary Parent-Teacher Conferences

During Elementary Parent-Teacher Conferences, CMCSS families are invited to visit the Special Populations information table to meet district specialists, ask questions, and learn more about the services and supports available to students.

Representatives will include school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other Special Populations professionals. Whether you have questions about your child's learning, development, or educational services, we encourage you to stop by, connect with our team, and explore the resources available to support your child's success.

2026 Kiwanis Club of Clarksville Interview a Veteran Essay Contest

The annual Kiwanis Club of Clarksville Interview-a-Veteran Essay Contest is now open to CMCSS students. Students in grades 6 through 12 have the opportunity to submit an essay based on an interview with a military veteran. Submissions are due by the end of September to your child’s school. The deadline for student submissions is set by each school, but school-based winners are determined by October 2.

Awards:
- School winners will receive a plaque and $100.
- Runner-ups will receive a plaque and $150.
- Grand Division Winners will receive a plaque, $200, and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol.
- Grand Winner, Runner-up, and Most Inspiring and Heroic winners will read a two to three-minute excerpt of their essays at the Kiwanis Awards Luncheon.
