September 11, 2001 — We Remember. 🇺🇸
Twenty-five years ago today, our country woke up to an ordinary Tuesday morning that would forever change our lives.
Our residents remember that morning from very different places and circumstances. Some saw the first reports on television almost immediately. Others were at work, teaching, caring for their children, golfing, or simply going about their morning before they learned what had happened.
One resident was ironing clothes when she received a phone call. She immediately turned on the television.
One was out golfing and didn’t know what was happening for more than an hour.
One was teaching 4th grade when she received the devastating phone call.
One was getting her babies dressed for the day when her mom called to tell her what was happening.
One was working at the library when she saw the events unfolding on television.
One resident was working in Labor & Delivery at the hospital when all of the televisions suddenly changed to the same broadcast. She remembers, “The babies didn’t stop coming. We were trying to figure out what was happening while still doing our jobs.”
And then there is one story that is especially difficult to put into words.
We have a resident who was at work at the Pentagon that morning. She doesn’t talk much about what happened, but when asked about that day, she simply says it was “the scariest day of her life.”
These stories remind us that history isn’t just something we read about in books. History is something our residents lived.
Today, our residents and team gathered around our flagpole for a moment of silence and a prayer for each and every family affected by this tragedy. 🇺🇸 We prayed for the lives lost, the families forever changed, the first responders who ran toward danger, and everyone who continues to carry the memories of that day.
25 years later, we remember. We honor. We pray. And we will never forget. 🇺🇸
