Tomorrow May 11 is FIELD DAY and we have an action-packed day planned for our students! 🐍☀️🏃‍♂️

From tug-of-war and relay races to tons of other fun activities, it’s going to be a great day full of teamwork, competition, and Cobra spirit! We hope everyone comes ready to have a blast.

A few reminders before tomorrow:
🌤 The high is expected to be 78°, but temperatures at start time will be around 58°, so please dress appropriately and follow dress code guidelines.
🧢 Hats and sunglasses are allowed outside.
🧴 Even though the morning will be cool, the sun will be shining, so don’t forget sunscreen!

🍿 Concessions will also be available for purchase throughout the day.

Field Day is coming up on May 11th, and we need your help to make it an amazing day for our students! ☀️🏃‍♂️

We are looking for parent volunteers to help run stations, cheer on students, and keep the fun going all day long!

⏰ Whether you can give one hour, two hours, or more, we would truly appreciate your time!

⚡️🏎️ What an electrifying day for our Junior Solar Sprint teams! ☀️🔋

Today, five incredible teams represented our school as they competed against students from across the entire district in the Junior Solar Sprint competition. These students have worked tirelessly designing, building, testing, and refining their solar-powered cars — and their hard work truly paid off!

The competition wasn’t just about speed. Teams were judged on multiple categories including:
📓 Engineering test journals
🎨 Creative car themes
⚡ Overall speed and performance

And we are thrilled to announce that one of our teams raced their way to a 🥈 SECOND PLACE finish! 🎉👏

We are so proud of every student who competed today. Their creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and dedication were on full display from start to finish. The future is bright for these young engineers and innovators!

Collaboration, creativity, and robotics came together in an unforgettable hands-on engineering challenge!

Our second period gifted students teamed up with our CDC classes to design and build a miniature golf course engineered specifically for VEX IQ robots to navigate and “play” through each hole. From obstacle design to course construction and robot testing, students combined imagination, problem-solving, and teamwork every step of the way.

The result was a fully interactive course where human design met robotic precision in the most engaging way—turning learning into a truly interactive experience.

Innovation was on full display, and so was the power of inclusive collaboration! ⛳🤖✨

Day FOUR of Teacher Appreciation Week and WOW… our teachers were definitely feeling the love today! 💙🐍

Lunch was absolutely incredible thanks to the generosity of some amazing community partners who helped make our staff feel celebrated and appreciated.

A huge THANK YOU to:
🥪 Comperry Construction for providing delicious subs
🥔 Donna Ross (MFLC) for bringing the chips
🍪 Zaxby’s for the sweet cookies
🥧 Moss’s for the pies and banana pudding that disappeared VERY quickly 😄

It takes a special community to pour into educators the way ours does, and we are so thankful for every person and business that helped make Day 4 so special. Our teachers work hard every single day for students, and today they got to enjoy a little extra appreciation (and a lot of good food)!

Day 3 of Teacher Appreciation Week was another success thanks to the amazing partnership of Dock 17 and City Forum! 🎉🍔🎳

Our teachers work tirelessly every single day, and we are so grateful for community partners who help make them feel celebrated and appreciated. Thank you to Dock 17 and City Forum for helping fuel our staff and bringing smiles to our building today.

We are incredibly thankful for the support our teachers receive from local businesses and our community. It truly takes a village, and ours is pretty amazing!

Day TWO of Teacher Appreciation Week and we are feeling the love!! 🙌

A huge thank you to Kirkwood Church for treating our staff to a delicious breakfast from Panera Bread this morning. What better way to kick off a PD day than with warm coffee, great food, and even greater support from our community!

Moments like these remind us just how lucky we are to be surrounded by people who believe in and invest in our teachers. Your generosity helped fuel not just our morning—but our entire day.

🍪🌮Poetry So Good, You Can Almost Taste It!🍜🍦

6th and 7th Grade Media Team students explored how food can tell a story—writing heartfelt poems filled with vivid imagery, personal memories, family traditions, and creativity. From favorite snacks to meaningful meals, each poem became a reflection of their unique voice and experiences.

After several weeks of reading and analyzing “Ode to El Molcajete” by Gary Soto, brainstorming ideas, and working through multiple rough drafts and edits, they have officially completed their “Ode to…” poetry projects! To showcase their hard work, Media Team students also created a digital flipbook featuring their completed poems—a delightful and delicious read!

Our talented student media crews collaborated to create a heartfelt video celebrating the amazing teachers who make KiMS such a special place. Students interviewed their peers to answer one important question: “What makes our teachers at Kirkwood so special?”💙

From their kindness and patience to the way they inspire, encourage, and support students every day—our teachers make a lasting impact, and our students were excited to share why they appreciate them so much. 🧡
