Independence Fire Department had a special visitor today who gave us permission to share her story, and also provided breakfast!
In late December of 2025 Independence Fire received a call for a patient that was unconscious, and not responsive. When our crews arrived the patient was found to be in cardiac arrest. With no hesitation the crews provided CPR and transportation to the hospital. CPR and other advanced life support methods were initiated and found to be effective. The patient was breathing on her own and speaking prior to arrival to the emergency room. She was released from the hospital and came in to say how grateful she was for the services provided by the Fire Department.
It is not often that a severely critical patient is able to show up to give gratitude only a couple of weeks after their incident. While gratitude is never expected, we do love to hear when we've made a difference in someone's life.
Mrs. Joette Kunse, thank you for stopping in and speaking to us today about your experience. These moments are one of the many reasons we love to do what we do. We wish you the most stable recovery!
