On the inside of K9 Jerry’s new K9 Storm Inc vest, we chose to honor Derek Hotsinpiller, a local legend, who unfortunately paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving his local community.

We look forward to seeing K9 Jerry and Deputy Sam Kraemer out on patrol, protecting and serving, while representing Derek Hotsinpiller’s legacy and The Hotsinpiller Foundation!

Deputy Sam Kraemer was excited to see K9 Jerry get his paws on his brand new K9 Storm Inc ballistic vest today!

This ballistic vest is the best money can buy and cost us nearly $3,500! A price we are willing to pay to protect the paws that locally enforce our laws!

Special thanks to all of our local donors and supporters, especially the Deputies at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office that use our K9 Advocates vending machine each and every day to support local K9s!

Clarksburg Police Department’s K9 Lobo has received donation of body armor

Clarksburg Police Department, WV - K9 Lobo has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Lobo’s vest was sponsored by the Survival Armor incentive program and embroidered with the sentiment β€œGifted by Vested Interest in K9s and Survival Armor”.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,397 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lbs., and comes with a five-year warranty. For more information or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call (508) 824-6978. Police K9 officers across the United States are now protected under federal law after Congress passed legislation making it a federal crime to assault or kill a law enforcement dog or horse.

The Protecting and Serving Animal Partners Act, passed with strong bipartisan support, establishes criminal penalties for anyone who intentionally kills or seriously injures a government-owned service animal, including K9 units.

Offenders now face up to 10 years in federal prison if the animal is killed, and up to 5 years if it is seriously injured during the course of its law enforcement duties.

Before this legislation, protections were inconsistent across states. Some states had strong local protections while others had almost none, leaving these animals in a legal grey zone despite putting their lives on the line every day.

K9 handlers and law enforcement organizations called the law a long overdue recognition of the critical role these animals play in keeping communities safe.
