A tornado WATCH is now in effect for Oneida, Madison, Chenango Counties and Western NY and until 11:00 pm

TORNADO WATCH vs. TORNADO WARNING — WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

It’s one of the most important things to understand when severe weather threatens:

TORNADO WATCH = BE PREPARED
A watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes. A tornado may or may not develop, but the potential is there. Watches typically cover a large area and can last for several hours.

Know where you would shelter and stay tuned for updates.

TORNADO WARNING = TAKE ACTION
A warning means a tornado has been spotted or indicated by radar, or is considered imminent. The threat is much more immediate and the warning area is much smaller.

Take shelter immediately. Go to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.

The easiest way to remember it:
WATCH = Tornadoes are possible.
WARNING = A tornado is happening or about to happen.

Our deepest sympathies to our friends at Sylvan Beach Fire Department on their tragic loss. Our hearts are with you all in this difficult time.

It is with heavy hearts and extreme difficulty that we pass along the tragic and untimely death of 3rd Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Voorhies. Ryan was fatally injured in a UTV accident last night in Lewis County. Please keep Ryan's wife Katie, son Gabe, son Logan and his entire family in your thoughts. Services will be posted when available.

Sunday, October 4th at 2pm the Clark Mills American Legion Post 26 is hosting a Natural Disaster Preparedness Class. The Clark Mills Fire Department and Kirkland Town Library are co-hosting. In this class you will learn how to navigate different natural disasters safely and efficiently. You will also be given a free preparedness kit (one per household). If you are interested in taking this FREE class, please sign up on the website via the QR code! Please visit the Kirkland Town Library for assistance with signing up if needed!

Last night, the Clark Mills Fire Department trained on the use of the Jaws of Life to gain access to patients trapped inside a vehicle. Members also had the opportunity to practice breaking vehicle glass and other techniques used to safely gain access during an emergency.

Thanks to a vehicle donated for training purposes, our members were able to get valuable hands-on experience in a realistic setting.
Regular training like this helps keep our skills sharp and ensures we’re prepared when an emergency happens. 🚒🧑‍🚒
