Sew and Share Food Pantry is thankful for community members and organizations who donate food and money to help local families who struggle with food insecurity. Your support is amazing!
We want to give a special shout out to those who have donated fresh produce. We know that Maury Hanson, Nancy Lindsay, Westminster Presbyterian Garden project, CCF bee keepers, and the Community Garden project have all given fresh local foods. Often lovely squash, peppers, etc. just appear in front of the church on Wednesday mornings and we don’t know who dropped them off. Thank you to these mystery gardeners.
Other secret donations have been showing up as gift cards at the grocery stores. Our team uses these dollars to purchase protein sources from our wonderfully supportive local HyVee and Fareway stores. Thank you anonymous donors!
However, we want to alert you that the need is growing and resources are diminishing. Cuts to some USDA programs have resulted in less availability of food that we can order from the Food Bank of the Heartland in Omaha. Also the number of families in our area who are in need of some assistance is growing. In September an average of 42 families came each week to get some food to help stretch their budgets. 14 families were new; they had not needed this assistance before. These numbers were before the government shut down.
When you are thinking of how you can help others in our community, please consider giving a donation to the Sew and Share Food Pantry, P.O. Box 43, 923 State St., Clarinda, Iowa 51632.
