The sidewalk outside the district office is private property, and we would have to contact the property managers to get permission or we risk getting police called on us. The District Representative has agreed to meet a delegation, but he only has space for 8-10.
If need be, we will rally on a later date. For now, since we already have his ear, we can escalate as needed later!!

This is a call to action for the Claremont community to support California's immigrant population.
Our Assemblymember, Chris Holden, has yet to announce support for SB 54 and SB 6. SB 54, the California Values Act/"Sanctuary State" bill, prohibits state and local law enforcement from cooperating with immigration police in a variety of ways (though they can still cooperate in deporting violent felons). SB6, the Expanding Due Process Act, allocates $12 million dollars for a legal deportation defense fund for undocumented Californians.
These are INCREDIBLY important bills for protecting our undocumented Californians, upholding their rights and dignity as individuals, and ensuring that California remains a beacon of justice and tolerance in the United States.
The Damage Control Action Network (DCAN), a Claremont Colleges student group dedicated to fighting Trump at the local level, is organizing a community rally and delegation outside of Chris Holden's Claremont office. Other important progressive organizations in our community, such as Indivisible Claremont and Move Forward, shall come out to support immigrants too - as well as many other parts of our community. We hope to invite local media and showcase supportive speakers representing various cross sections of the community (undocumented and immigrant, faith, students, faculty, labor, activists, etc.). We will then send in a delegation which will discuss the two bills with Holden's staff.
We will request that they publicly address our assembled community regarding the bills, arrange a meeting between our groups and Chris Holden, and most of all, that Chris Holden SUPPORT these two bills in Assembly, and convince his committees and caucuses to join in.
Please come out to support the immigrant community of California, and let us know if you represent a community in Claremont and would like to speak. We must stand together in support of concrete legislation that will work to further shield immigrant communities from the worst that the present administration has to offer. Let's show Chris Holden that Claremont stands for immigrant rights!
