Oxford Dam, located off NC 16 North, is currently undergoing a much-needed upgrade. Brasfield & Gorrie Company is leading the project, which is expected to last approximately four years.
Claremont Rescue Squad, Oxford Fire Department, and St. Stephenβs Fire Department were invited to tour the dam and participate in a joint training exercise alongside Brasfield & Gorrie personnel. After gaining an overview of the project, crews focused on pre-planning for a high-angle rescue scenario involving an injured worker at the top of the dam.
Teams worked through strategies for patient packaging and removal, including setting up pulley systems and rigging the patient into a Stokes basket for safe lowering to a designated landing zone, where the patient could then be transferred to an ambulance for further care.
This was a valuable training opportunity, not only working with the Brasfield & Gorrie team but also collaborating with our neighboring departments at Oxford Fire and St. Stephenβs Fire. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the training a success.
Claremont Rescue is always happy to visit school groups or host tours at our stations, giving the community a chance to see our equipment up close and learn more about what we do.
