"We are grateful to our donors for helping us support Clare County nonprofits," said Tim Wilson, Clare County Community Foundation Board Chair. "These grants represent a wide range of services that support health, education, and recreation throughout the county."
First quarter grants for 2025 include:
• MyMichigan Health Foundation - $18,424
Risk Reduction Education for Diabetes, Heart Disease & Obesity Prevention in Youth
This grant supports MyMichigan Health Foundation in delivering education that promotes healthier outcomes and reduces the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. The programming, offered free to Clare County residents, includes evidence-based education and screening.
“The Risk Reduction program reaches approximately 300 students each school year and indirectly impacts the students’ households,” said Erin White, Manager of the Diabetes Center for MyMichigan Health. “We aim to encourage youth to take control of their health by engaging in healthy lifestyle choices. Using a curriculum developed by the USDA, we provide hands-on education to empower youth to make healthy food and activity choices,” said White. “The students are challenged to make small changes, such as drinking more water, consuming more fruits and vegetables, or increasing physical activity. These small, but impactful choices can lead to a healthy lifestyle that lasts into adulthood.”
• Little League Baseball, Inc. - $8,500
Clare Area Little League Fence Repair
Funding will assist the Clare Area Little League in replacing fences at its field, helping to provide a safe, welcoming, and functional space for youth athletics and recreation in the Clare community.
“The grant project will have a significant impact on both the Clare area community and Clare Little League by enhancing local youth sports opportunities, improving facilities, and fostering a safe environment for young ball players,” said the Clare Area Little League Board. “By investing in the infrastructure, this initiative will promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and community engagement, ensuring that generations of players have access to quality recreational experiences.”
• Harrison Community Schools - $4,970.89
Outdoor Recreational Opportunities
This grant supports Harrison Middle School’s request for recreational equipment. The new equipment enhances students' physical activity during and after school, providing opportunities to support student well-being and development.
Competitive grants are offered quarterly. Grants are open to all 501(c)(3) nonprofit agencies, public schools, and government entities servicing Clare County.
