McGuire Chevrolet has decided to post-pone their 80th celebration on June 24th as it would coincide on the same date of Mid Michigan College retirement party for President Tim Hood. We are so thankful we live in such a generous community where a business will put another wonderful event over their own event. McGuire Chevrolet still plans on having a Business After Hours to celebrate their 80 years in the Clare Community and as soon as they decide when that will be, we will pass on that information.

Making our communities stronger - the Clare County Community Foundation.

The Clare County Community Foundation Board recently approved five grant requests totaling $47,000 to support charitable, cultural, educational, recreational, and community needs throughout Clare County.

Grantmaking from this cycle was completed in conjunction with the Clare County Youth Action Council, a group of energetic 6th through 12th graders who assess and meet the needs of young people in our area while promoting youth philanthropy, volunteerism, and leadership.

“Grantmaking through the Clare County Community Foundation is about more than dollars; it’s about investing in the people, ideas, and organizations that make our community stronger. Each grant reflects our shared commitment to creating opportunities, supporting local solutions, and ensuring Clare County continues to grow and thrive for years to come,” said Tim Wilson, Clare County Community Foundation Board Chair.

First quarter grants for 2026 include:

Clare Youth Football received $7,000 for football helmets and shoulder pads to help ensure the safety of youth athletes and allow the program to continue offering a safe and positive athletic experience.

“Thank you for funding safe, updated equipment. This grant protects our athletes while strengthening teamwork, leadership, and community pride throughout the Clare area,” said Brad Davis.

Crooked Lake Improvement Association received $10,000 to support the construction of two pickleball courts within Garfield Township Park in Lake Station, expanding recreational opportunities and creating a new space for residents to gather, stay active, and connect.

MyMichigan Health Foundation received $18,500 for 2026-2027 Risk Reduction Education for Diabetes, Heart Disease and Obesity Prevention in Youth, providing Clare County youth with access to health education focused on nutrition, physical activity, and long-term healthy habits.

PACE Central Michigan received $2,500 for Mobility for Senior Medical Equity, supporting the purchase of a minivan to improve transportation access for older adults and help reduce barriers to specialized medical care.

Sleepy Dog Books Foundation received $9,000 for the Sleepy Dog Books Foundation Book Vending Machine Program, which will fund the installation and initial stocking of a book vending machine at Clare Elementary School to encourage reading engagement and foster a lifelong love of learning.

The Clare County Community Foundation is committed to the practices of trust-based philanthropy, building relationships with nonprofits, and making grantmaking responsive to community needs.

Competitive grants are offered quarterly and are open to 501(c)(3) nonprofit agencies, public schools, and government entities serving Clare County. To inquire about donating, establishing a fund, or applying for a grant, contact the Community Foundation at (989) 839-9661 or [email protected].
