Hoping to get to see views like this more often?

As an Aids to Navigation verifier or a Boat Crew qualified member, you go out on the water to ensure the safety of other boaters. This can range from ensuring buoys are still in good condition to joining active duty crews as they patrol an area to ensure safe practices are being followed.

Auxiliarists perform essential Coast Guard missions and, when we do, we are expected to train and perform our duties with the same level of dedication and professionalism as active duty Coasties.

Coxswains and crew members from our surface operations team recently conducted a joint training exercise with members from District 8, Eastern Region and with new recruits to the surface operations program. We always learn something when training with dedicated Auxiliarists from other units.

Did you know Donald Duck was once (temporarily) an Auxiliarist?

Walt Disney Studios created a number of logos and promotional material for the branches of the Armed Forces through WWII. According to the
National Coast Guard Museum Association, Disney created logos like this one for the Corsair Fleet, which was alternatively known as the Temporary Reserves. The Temporary Reserves were an early iteration of the Auxiliary who often protected our home ports while our active duty counterparts were deployed through the war.

A fun day on the water starts by getting connected! An engine cut-off switch stops the boatโ€™s engine should the operator unexpectedly fall overboard. This time of year - and always - always wear or use your engine cut-off switch.
