41st IBCT Command Team Holiday Message

Happy Holidays, Jungleers!

Col. Paul Dyer, commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. John Zagyva, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, share a holiday message from the North Pole with Soldiers, Families, employers and supporters across the Jungleer formation.

In their message, the command team thanks Jungleers for their dedication and sacrifices throughout the year — from training events and mobilizations to the day-to-day efforts that keep the brigade ready. They also encourage Soldiers to take time during the holidays to reflect, recharge and spend meaningful time with loved ones.

The command team recognizes the vital support provided by Families, friends and employers, and reminds Soldiers and Families that help is always available through the chain of command, Family Programs, Military OneSource and state resources.

From Col. Dyer and Command Sgt. Maj. Zagyva — Happy Holidays to the entire Jungleer family.

That is no misprint. The date the Massachusetts colonial legislature authorized a consolidation of the colony’s militias into three regiments was indeed on December 13, 1636. Similar to many other military observances, the birthday of the National Guard is not a national holiday, a bank holiday, or a special day off on the federal calendar. Yet Guard units around the world make a point to honor this special day. Read more: https://www.nationalguard.mil/About-the-Guard/How-We-Began/

Welcome Home, Task Force Defender

The Oregon Army National Guard proudly welcomed home Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 218th Field Artillery Regiment during a demobilization ceremony on Nov. 16, 2025, at Neil Armstrong Middle School in Forest Grove.

Approximately 230 Soldiers from 2 Battalion 218 Field Artillery serving as Task Force Defender recently returned from a year-long mobilization in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

The unit conducted Short Range Air Defense operations at eight geographically dispersed sites across Jordan, Iraq, and Syria.

The 2-218 FA has a long and distinguished history of service dating back to the early 20th century, with Oregon Soldiers supporting missions at home and overseas for generations. Their legacy continues today through the professionalism, dedication, and resilience shown throughout this deployment.

To the Soldiers of Task Force Defender welcome home! Your Brigade, your families, and your communities are proud of you.
