Last week, Heluna Health team members had the privilege of attending this year's FRCNCA Directors' Forum.

Family Resource Centers Network of California (FRCNCA), a partner of Heluna Health, is a statewide coalition support for Early Start Family Resource Centers across California. They connect families of children with disabilities and special healthcare needs to services and resources, while equipping center staff with professional development, coaching, and partnerships to ensure high-quality, family-centered care from birth to age three.

Each year, the Forum brings together Directors from all 47 Family Resource Centers, representatives from the Department of Developmental Services, and other partners for networking, policy updates, and shared learning around best practices for family-driven support.

This year, our team presented on recommended approaches to contracts, budgets, and spending, and left inspired by the collective commitment to equity and access for families across California.

We're grateful for FRCNCA's partnership and excited for what's ahead as we continue to support this crucial work for individuals and families with disabilities.

Last week, we had the privilege of joining our longtime partner, the Health Officers Association of California (HOAC) for their Education & Legislation Day at the State Capitol in Sacramento.

County health officers from across California came together to engage directly with assembly members and their staff on the public health priorities shaping our communities. It was a powerful reminder of what's at stake when science meets policy.

A few things that stood out:

Legislators can't be experts on everything. They rely on organizations like HOAC to help them understand the real-world impact of the bills they vote on.

Specificity and stories move people. Rather than speaking in broad strokes about public health impact, health officers were encouraged to paint a clear picture β€” what does this actually look like for the people in your county?

Public health advocates are the ultimate "white hat" voices in the room. No special interest. No agenda beyond the public good backed by scientific expertise and what they witness firsthand in their communities every day.

We're proud to support HOAC and the dedicated public health leaders who show up to ensure that the legislative process reflects the health needs of all Californians.

As we close out National Women's Health Week, we take a moment to celebrate the people and organizations doing the everyday work of keeping women healthy, informed, and supported.

This year's theme, "Prevention, Innovation, and Impact: A New Era in Women's Health," is a call to move beyond fragmented care and toward solutions that meet women where they are, across every stage of life. It's a vision we see reflected in our network every day.

We're proud to shout out a few of our Heluna Health partners living that mission. Each of these organizations is women-led and that leadership shows in the communities they prioritize, the decisions they make, and the way they show up for women's health every single day.

MOMentum Park is dedicated to ensuring mothers have the wraparound support, resources, and community they need to thrive at every stage of the maternal health journey. Rooted in sisterhood and powered by technology, they provide perinatal and social support that meets women where they are: on their phones, on social media, and directly in the community β€” walking with them through pregnancy and safely into parenthood.

The SOL Project is fighting for smoke-free spaces in Northern California's Gold Country region, with a focus on protecting African American and African immigrant communities disproportionately targeted by the to***co industry. Their work is a powerful reminder that clean air and to***co-free environments are foundational to women's health

PHFE WIC Program (Official) believes that good nutrition is one of the most powerful investments we can make in women's health. As the largest WIC agency in the country, they serve 180,000 people across Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino counties, connecting pregnant and postpartum women to nutritious foods, breastfeeding support, and personalized nutrition education that lasts well beyond an office visit.

Thank you to every organization, provider, and advocate in our network showing up for women's health, this week and every week.

"It's like improv theater. You really have to think creatively and quickly."

That's how Chris Garcia, Disease Intervention Trainer at Heluna Health partner, California Prevention Training Center (CAPTC), describes the work of public health training, capturing exactly why he's so good at it.

With 15+ years of frontline experience in STI and HIV prevention, Chris doesn't just teach from the slides. He puts down the mic, makes it real, and prepares health professionals for the moments no curriculum can fully anticipate: when a patient's mom answers the door, or someone hands you a phone unexpectedly.

His approach reflects the heart of CAPTC's mission. As the "trainer of trainers," CAPTC is built on the belief that the best instructors are the ones who've truly lived the work, and that stronger training means stronger care for the communities that need it most.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to deepen connections, find support, and create space for healing. This month, we're proud to spotlight our partner RecoverWell and the vital work they do every day to make sure no one has to navigate the path to mental health care alone.

RecoverWell's platform connects hospital and community patient advocates to a vetted network of mental health and addition treatment providers, streamlining a process that has historically been slow and complex. From assessing a patient's needs to verifying insurance coverage to facilitating the admissions process, RecoverWell is there every step of the way.

Behind the scenes, Heluna Health supports RecoverWell with the administrative and operational infrastructure that keeps the organization running so that their team can stay focused entirely on building provider connections and getting people into care.

This month and every month, we're grateful to stand behind partners doing this kind of meaningful, necessary work.
