Today, Senator Tammy Baldwin raised an important issue: funding for County Veterans Service Officers.

In response, VA Secretary Doug Collins spoke to the real-world impact of CVSOs and voiced support for full funding in FY 2027.

We couldn’t agree more. CVSOs play a critical role in connecting veterans and their families to the care and benefits they’ve earned, right in their communities.

Pickaway County Veterans Service Commission has also taken a stance of opposition to this legislation. It is illegal to require a fee to file assist a veteran with their benefits without being accredited with the VA.

As stated in this post, we agree with Butler County in that a veteran should never have to pay for earned benefits.

The Butler County Veterans Service Commission has formally opposed House Bill 708.

This legislation would allow private individuals and companies to charge veterans for assistance accessing their earned VA benefits. In Ohio, accredited assistance is already available free of charge through your local Veterans Service Commission.

Veterans should never have to pay to access the benefits they’ve earned.
