I’m disappointed and frustrated with how this played out.

We’ve been hearing from residents for a long time now, find ways to bring in revenue without putting more on taxpayers. All this while there’s a real conversation happening across Ohio about eliminating property taxes. Whether that happens or not, it’s a reminder that local governments have to be ahead of the game and prepared to adapt.

Because whether it’s a household, a business, or a city, you don’t wait until the last minute and react. You plan ahead. You diversify. You try to prepare for what’s coming, not just what’s happening today.

The administration and some members of Council did the work on this. It was researched. It was talked through. We listened. We took our time and didn’t rush it.

Too much time.

Another community made a decision, and now that revenue is going there instead of coming here.

This isn’t about where anyone personally stands on cannabis. People will disagree on that. This is a legal, taxable industry, and the tax is paid only by those who choose to participate. Those dollars could have stayed here to support our local government.

Now there will be a dispensary in the township immediately surrounding the city. My hope is that we realize we can’t keep watching opportunities leave and expect different results.

I wish I was making a more positive post today. As we head into the summer months, our parks, playgrounds, and public spaces should be places where families gather, children play, and neighbors enjoy everything that makes Circleville a great community. Unfortunately, I need to talk about something that continues to concern me.
Over the past several years, the City has invested significant time, effort, and taxpayer dollars into improving our parks and public facilities. These investments were made for the benefit of the entire community. Yet we continue to see vandalism, destruction of property, and damage to facilities that belong to all of us.
To be honest, it is discouraging. Every time something is damaged, city crews must spend time making repairs, and taxpayer dollars must be spent replacing what was destroyed. Those are resources that could otherwise be used to improve services, enhance our parks, or invest in other community needs. The reality is that the City does not have an unlimited budget.
That is why I am asking for your help. If you see vandalism, suspicious activity, or damage being done to public property, please say something. Contact the Circleville Police Department or the Department of Public Service. The eyes and ears of our community are one of the most effective ways to protect these spaces.
Circleville is a community that takes pride in itself. These parks and facilities belong to all of us, and it takes all of us to protect them. Together, we can ensure they remain safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for generations to come.
Thank you for your help, and thank you for caring about our community.

Conversations surrounding data centers are becoming the norm in local governments, church Bible studies, and family gatherings across the country.

This past week, the Circleville Noon Rotary Club heard a presentation on data centers during its monthly focus on Economic Development.

Today, the Ohio House and Senate Select Committee on Data Centers held its first 3+ hour hearing at the Ohio Statehouse.

At the beginning, the dates, times of future committee meetings and the invited speakers were stated.

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer. It is a day to remember the men and women who gave their lives for our country and the families who continue to carry that loss each day.

Today, as flags fly and families gather, I hope we all take a quiet moment to reflect on the sacrifice made so we can enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted.
