McCone Conservation District

McCone Conservation District Conservation District located in Circle, Montana. The McCone Conservation District was first organized on August 14, 1942.

The District includes three watersheds: The Redwater River, Prairie Elk-Wolf and Fort Peck Reservoir. The town of Circle petitioned and entered the District in 1994. The present land area of the McCone Conservation District is 1,717,120 acres. The District name was McCone Soil Conservation District until 1962 when it changed to McCone Soil & Water Conservation District. In 1972, the name changed again to McCone Conservation District, a name that we still hold today.

Congratulations to the students in The Democracy Project. Those students had fond memories of a sandbox and wanted to make sure new students had access to one. They spent last year planning, lobbying the School Board, and working with Mr. Kelly and his shop classes to make it happen. The new sandbox was custom built with a retractable lid ( take that feral cats!) and is in place now! These students also donated more than 200 new books to the high school library.

We are a non-partisan organization that helps kids learn how government works and how to advocate for issues they care about. We will announce an organizational meeting in the coming weeks. Until then, contact Mary at the library for more information. Democracy Project is open to grades 7 and up.
