It happened today: June 12, 2026. Cincinnatus Lady Lions Softball Team headed to the NYS Class D State Semifinals. From waiting, to lining up the vehicles, to heading toward and boarding the bus, it was half an hour of splendid local history in the making.

Here we go, and here you go. The limited edition of the 2027 CAHS historical calendar promises to be one of the best yet. Make your purchase when visiting NBT Bank, S&D or the Cincinnatus Home Center. We're keeping our price the same as last year: $20.

NOTE: We also plan to sell the calendars on the 4th of July at our vendor table. And you can always buy from one of our CAHS board members.

CAHS joins the Kellogg Free Library in welcoming a Union 36 two-harness loom that will replicate the one former Rogers House resident Bessie M. Seely used to make her rag rugs. In through the Rogers House back door we went, negotiating a narrow passage through the former woodhouse and an even narrower inner door before reaching our destination: The Loom Room. Our heartfelt thanks to Kathryn Mcmahon (owner of Old School Wool and Weaving in So. Otselic) and her husband Walter for making this happen in Cincinnatus.

In the coming week we hope to be warping/threading the loom. In the weeks to come we'll be offering workshops for folks who'd like to learn how to weave a rug.

CAHS has this morning (6/3) created a designated textile fund for those who wish to make monetary donations for supplies. Weaving, quilting, hooked rug making, and braided rug making were four of Miss Seely's artistic passions. The designated fund will enable us to purchase quality supplies for learners.

Tina Knickerbocker's fifth graders accompanied CAHS board members this morning. We met at the Academy, strolled across Main St. and turned right to visit Elmer Ambrose Sperry's signage. Ask us how the bell in the Academy worked, how a young student named Ruth Holmes lost her school pencil in between the slats of the boardwalk, how the school was cleaned and heated. Ask us about Elmer's mother Mary, Elmer's horseradish grater, his gyroscope, his company in NYC, his wife's unusual first name. We learned much, and we also cleaned the signs en route.
