You guys want to hear about a ๐ป๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐บ? This one's about Zoom. Pull up a chair and read the details (and advice) below.
Please repost to save the people you know from being scammed.
We recently took a report for a citizen who was concerned they'd been hacked and their identifying information compromised. They reported being prompted to update Zoom on their home computer. Another version of the Zoom scam involves an unexpected call/meeting request from a unknown contact, typically presenting you with a link to connect with them. This is also happening with Google Meet, like WhatsApp before it.

While it may look like you're updating Zoom (or whatever scammers are pushing next), you're actually downloading malware that can steal passwords, log key strokes, or may give the scammer access to personal files.

๐๐ข ๐ก๐ข๐ง click unknown/suspicious links in Zoom! Use your own account to create a meeting for the other party to join instead.
๐๐ข ๐ก๐ข๐ง update apps or programs from pop-ups. Always update from you preferred app store or by going to the company's/product's website.

-Run you computer's antivirus program and change your passwords from an unaffected device.
-If you think your personal information has been compromised, notify the Federal Trade Commission at identitytheft.gov (this is a great interactive page to help you navigate the process of securing your info), the Ohio Attorney General, and contact one of the three credit reporting bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) to freeze or put alerts on your credit file. Whichever bureau you contact will contact the others.
-If your banking or credit card info is compromised, contact the bank or card issuers immediately and monitor your recent purchases for unusual activity.
