Contact Center has been organizing toward change to improve the lives of low and moderate income people since 1968! Located in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood in Cincinnati, low-income residents began seeing their neighbors being displaced from their homes by development projects sponsored by public investment. Through community organizing and direct action, residents spoke out for their rights fo

r self-determination of their housing and their lives. From this neighborhood beginning, the Contact Center has branched out to include economic security and anti-poverty work throughout Cincinnati and the State of Ohio. Although we have expanded beyond Over-the-Rhine, our neighborhood where we are based remains very important to us. Whether on the local or state level, the self-determination model remains the same: those affected by the public policies are the leadership and engine that drive the work at the Contact Center. Through advocacy, action and education we work together to eradicate the myths, stereotypes and stigmas that are harmful to low-income families and individuals. The Contact Center is dedicated to putting people experiencing poverty first. We encourage leadership development and provide opportunities for members to develop new skills and use them.
