What does prevention look like?

A condom. An HIV test. A fentanyl test strip. Naloxone. Access to free prevention resources.

Prevention looks different for everyone. That’s why we make it work for you.

Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we recognize the many ways harm reduction saves lives—including helping prevent overdose and reducing the risk of HIV, hepatitis C and other infections.

Every person deserves access to tools, information and support that helps support their health.

Prevent. Support. Save lives. 💜

Join Caracole at the 2026 Overdose Awareness Day event, hosted by the Addiction Services Council and African American Engagement Workgroup (AAEW), on Friday, August 28, at Washington Park.

This free, family-friendly event brings our community together to remember the people we’ve lost to overdose, support people and families impacted by substance use and connect with resources that can make a difference.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a time to honor lives lost, challenge stigma and make space for conversations about health, support and prevention. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to keeping our community healthy—and connecting people to the right resources matters.

Stop by the Caracole table to say hello! We’ll have free HIV at-home test kits, HIV prevention resources and swag (while supplies last).

⏰ ONE WEEK TO GO!

The countdown to Rock ‘n’ Bowl is on!

We’re getting ready for a legendary night of cocktails, dinner by the bite, bowling, music, dancing and a whole lot of fun at Super Bowl Bellewood Lanes.

Plus, we’ll thrilled to honor two longtime community champions: Interact for Health and Nigel Cotterill. From advancing health justice across our region to creating welcoming spaces where people can gather, connect and be themselves, both have made a lasting impact on our community. We’re proud to celebrate them—and all they’ve done to make Greater Cincinnati a better place.

We were so thrilled to partner with Caracole last week for a wonderful community reception!

We spent the evening exploring the story behind Kissing Doesn’t Kill, Gran Fury’s iconic 1990 AIDS activism poster (pictured in the first slide). Generously donated to OLA by Sara Vance Waddell, this poster will be on loan to Caracole for the next two years. We are so thrilled that this powerful work that connects LGBTQ+ history with the ongoing fight for HIV prevention, advocacy, and care will be able to be seen daily by folks who visit Caracole.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last week!

Today marks 36 years of the Ryan White CARE Act, a landmark piece of legislation passed on August 18, 1990 that continues to make HIV care and support possible for hundreds of thousands of people across the country.

Just two weeks ago, members of the Caracole team joined thousands of people from across the country at the National Ryan White Conference in Washington, DC. We heard about innovative ways communities are reaching people who face barriers to care, connected with colleagues from across the country, and were reminded of how much this work matters.

One especially moving moment: hearing Ryan White’s mother, Jeanne White-Ginder, share Ryan’s story and her own. It was a powerful reminder of the person at the heart of the movement—and of the importance of continuing the work that grew from his legacy.

36 years later, we’re proud to be part of that work.
