Rooted to Grow: Known. Challenged. Supported.

There is no environment that is as unique as a school on the first day.
I say, First day, BEST day!
Hallways are full and classrooms are buzzing. There is a renewed sense of energy and purpose. Braves are BACK!
And as we begin the 2026–27 school year, we are united around one clear goal:
Indian Hill Schools will ensure that every student is known, challenged, and supported to demonstrate meaningful academic growth.
It is a commitment to our students and families, and it is a return to our roots: academic excellence.
• Known — Students understand their strengths, needs, interests, goals, and current level of learning, and a trusted adult understands those perceptions and communicates them with families in a positive, encouraging way.
• Challenged — Students engage in rigorous, meaningful learning that requires them to apply the 5Cs—communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and citizenship—to analyze, evaluate, solve complex problems, design, and create.
• Supported — Students participate in a 1:1 conference with a teacher at least once each quarter to receive individualized feedback, intervention, enrichment, and support for their continued growth.
Rooted in Excellence
At Indian Hill, academic excellence is more than achieving a score or reaching a benchmark. Excellence is about growth. It is about knowing each student deeply enough to recognize where they are, challenging them to stretch beyond what they thought possible, and surrounding them with the support they need to get there.
It is our desire for every family to experience a deep sense of partnership and transparency throughout this journey. Starting in October, we look forward to providing districtwide updates on our website, illustrating our collective movement toward the expectation that every Brave is known, challenged, and supported.
While we focus on known, challenged, and supported, we remain committed to the importance of the 5Cs: collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, and citizenship. Our goal is not simply to prepare students for their first steps after graduation, like university life, but to provide an educational advantage that continues to serve them for years to come.
When we study necessary skills needed in the future, with reports like the World Economic Forum, we are reminded that students need meaningful opportunity in and out of the classroom to thrive, contribute, and distinguish themselves in an ever-changing world.
This year, we are being more intentional about protecting the time, energy, and expertise of our educators so they can stay focused on the work that has the greatest impact on student learning.
Seeing It in Action
One of the most powerful reminders of our work as educators came from Indian Hill High School Class of 2020 graduate Callie Gibson during the opening breakfast for all staff members. Callie shared that, even years after graduating, she still comes HOME to Indian Hill Schools in her dreams.
That sense of belonging did not happen by accident. Callie’s experience reflects what we mean when we say students should be known, challenged, and supported. She was known for who she was, challenged to grow, and supported by adults who believed in her. Years later, that experience still feels like home.
At Indian Hill, school is more than a place students attend each day. It is a community where students are known, challenged, supported, and encouraged to become more fully who they are. We take that opportunity seriously, each day that students arrive through our doors. Each child arrives with unique potential, curiosity, creativity, talents, and interests. Our responsibility is to discover those strengths, nurture them, and create the conditions for each student to grow.
Growing Together
In the August blog, the Redwood Forests was a metaphor for our community’s strength. Our roots matter. They ground us in a longstanding tradition of excellence, an extraordinary community, and a shared belief in what is possible for young people. But strong roots are only the beginning. This year, we are asking families to hold us to a clear promise: every student should be known, challenged, supported, and growing. We will share our districtwide progress toward these goals, and we will continue refining our work when the evidence shows we can do better.
I am known.

I am supported.
I am growing.
