We're building the Future of Madeira🏗️❤️
Let’s make sure our businesses cross the finish line with us. 🏁

When my family moved to the area 15 years ago, we fell in love with Madeira right away. The small-town charm, the walkable streets, the community events, the local shops and restaurants all pulled us in. This place felt like home.

Spending time in our business district, however, it was clear how much more it could be. Safer crossings. Clearer lanes. Wider sidewalks. More space to sit, stroll, and gather.

Over the past several years, the city, residents, and business owners have worked together through our Comprehensive Plan and public meetings to design that next chapter for Miami Avenue. Grants and city funds are now turning that plan into reality, not as a vanity project, but as an investment in the heart of Madeira.

Let’s be honest: Construction is not easy on anyone. Least of all our small businesses. Access changes. Traffic patterns shift. It can feel like a long season of orange cones.

But there is a finish line. Within the next year, we expect wider sidewalks, calmer traffic, and a downtown that invites you to park once, walk, linger, and connect with neighbors.

For that vision to work, our businesses need to be here when the cones come up. They chose Madeira. They stayed open through the noise and dust. Many of them sponsor our teams, donate to our schools, and show up for events. Every dollar you spend with them stays close to home.

So here is my ask for this holiday season:

🛍️ Look Local First: When you plan a meal out, need a gift, or want a quick treat, check a Madeira business first.

👋 The "Just Visiting" Rule: Even if you don’t need anything, pick one local shop you’ve never been in. Stop by, say hello, and thank them for being part of our community.

📱 Share the Love: If you have a favorite Madeira spot, tag them in the comments or share this post so more neighbors discover them.

Thank you for supporting the businesses that help make Madeira feel like home. I am looking forward to seeing you out on the sidewalks this season and in an even stronger downtown in the year ahead!

📢 Madeira Water Update 📢
During the City Council meeting on Monday, February 10th, after a thoughtful and healthy debate, Council voted unanimously (with one member absent) to begin the process of transitioning the east side of Madeira—those currently serviced by Indian Hill Water Works (IHWW)—to Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW).

I am confident that all data and input were carefully considered, leading to the right decision for Madeira's future. This marks the beginning of a ~2-year process to coordinate the transition between Madeira, GCWW, and Indian Hill—a complex task, but one that will ultimately provide our community with high-quality, affordable water under a unified provider, setting us up for the next 100 years.

Understanding the long history of IHWW makes me appreciate the work they have done in providing a portion of Madeira with reliable water service for nearly 100 years. We sincerely thank them for their service, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition while focusing on what best positions our city for long-term success.

I also want to thank the many residents who engaged with the city and Council on this issue, as well as our city administration for their dedication in hosting public hearings, evaluating multiple proposals, and keeping both Council and the public informed. Their efforts have been instrumental in navigating this decision, and their continued work will be key in moving forward under Council’s direction.

This is a significant milestone for Madeira, and I look forward to working together to ensure a seamless transition. 🚰💙

📢 Madeira’s Water Future: A Critical Decision Ahead 💧

Madeira is at a crossroads when it comes to our water system. For nearly a century, our city has been served by two separate water providers—Indian Hill Water Works (IHWW) and Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW). This division has led to a complex and potentially inequitable situation for residents, and as we consider the path forward, it’s critical that we make an informed decision.

I have spent dozens of hours researching this issue, compiling information from ~50 sources to provide a transparent, fact-based overview of the current landscape, key challenges, and potential opportunities. While this report reflects my own analysis and perspective (not that of the City of Madeira or my fellow Council Members), I believe it’s important to share what is driving my decision-making process.

Madeira Water Update💧

The latest water provider update is in, and Indian Hill Water Works (IHWW) has revised their proposal. The updated offer seems beneficial for most Madeira residents, especially with the elimination of the 41% surcharge after the first two years and future rates aligning with those of Indian Hill residents. However, the minimum usage structure means that low-usage seniors, single-person households, and small businesses may not experience the same savings.

It was an absolute joy to watch these incredible athletes play their hearts out, dominating every moment of the game with skill, determination, and so much joy. Exciting news for Madeira! The redevelopment of the historic Hosbrook and Muchmore houses is moving forward, marking an important step in enhancing our downtown with more dining and entertainment options—something 89% of residents voiced their support for during the 2023 Comprehensive Planning process. This project, led by Rick Wayne of W Four LLC and the same ownership group behind the successful A Tavola, promises to leverage shared expertise and resources for a strong start. With plans to open a wine bar in just 3-4 months, this development blends the preservation of our history with new energy for our local economy. Hello, Madeira Community!

As the Chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee and one of your elected representatives to City Council, I want to address some of the questions and concerns raised about the upcoming Madeira Egg Scramble.

I understand there have been some discussions and concerns regarding the name of our beloved Easter celebration. Let me clarify: the event has historically been referred to by several names, including the "Egg Scramble". This year, we continue with this tradition, aiming to bring joy and community spirit to all who attend. There has never been an intention to cause confusion or discontent regarding the event's naming.

We are excited to invite everyone in the community to join us for the Madeira Egg Scramble on March 30th. It's a time for fun, laughter, and community bonding. Furthermore, I want to extend my gratitude to our dedicated professionals and volunteers who make events like these possible. Our community thrives because of your commitment. Construction on the pocket park at Euclid & Camargo began this week. Crews from Green Living by Design prepared the site by removing construction debris, laid a permeable crushed stone walking path and began installing native plantings. Work is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2023.
