The Philmont Fire Department continues to be deployed to the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire. Crews had been in the Las Vegas area and are now currently in the Black Lake/ Moreno Valley area. Along with other Colfax County resources they are working on protecting values at risk and constructing fire lines to help protect our community.

Continue to pray for the safety of our firefighters and everyone effected by this fire.

Yesterday (8/28) PFD sent two engines to assist with the East Fork fire situated along the Colorado and New Mexico Border (Sugarite State Park). PFD assisted in scouting bulldozer line options to try and wrap the fire area within Division Golf. Fire activity was relatively low after light afternoon precipitation. Units returned back to Philmont at approximately 1:00am. Two engines are back in Raton today.

Last night Philmont Fire Department responded to a fire situated atop Wilson Mesa. The fire size yesterday evening was 141+ acres and is currently estimated to be ~155 acres.

Two Philmont Type-6 Engines, multiple Philmont ATVs and UTVs, one Cimarron Type-6 Engine, and a bulldozer from the CS ranch all took part in the initial attack phase. Units returned to stations around midnight to rehabilitate gear and rest before returning to the scene in the morning.

Today, crews from Philmont FD, Cimarron FD, NM State Forestry, and the Red River Fire Chasers have joined the effort to contain and mop-up the affected area.

On Sunday, July 12th and Monday, July 13th, Philmont Fire Department responded with multiple units to help contain grass fires near Maxwell New Mexico.

Seen below is 25-62 on the edge of the black with a rainbow in the background. 25-62 was able to refill water for the Type-6 engines used by Philmont FD, Cimarron FD, and French Tract FD.

Be sure your towing chains are not dragging on the pavement - that's how many grassfires close to highways start.
