Good evening, CMS families—this is Principal Lauren Johnson with your weekly update for the week of September 8th.

Monday (9/7) is the Labor Day holiday—there no school for students.

On Tuesday (9/8), our tardy policy begins please make sure your scholar arrives by 7:45 daily. This week, our schoolwide Lexia and i-Ready programs officially begin. Students will be required to complete 2 math and 2 reading i-Ready lessons weekly during homeroom and a certain amount of units in Lexia set by the ELA teacher to be completed during ELA. This is for a grade. Additional program time will be provided in elective classes as needed to ensure goals are met.
Also on Tuesday, the Back to School Dance tickets will be on sale for $10 during homeroom daily and also on schoolcash online.
Tuesday afternoon, we will have a SIT meeting at 3:00 p.m.

On Wednesday (9/9), the 5th Grade D.A.R.E. program begins.

On Friday (9/11), we will recognize Patriot Day by wearing red, white, and blue as we remember September 11th. Our Back to School Dance for grades 6–8 only will be held Friday from 2:45–5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10, and snacks will be provided. We also wish all of our CMS grandparents a Happy Grandparents Day on Sunday!

A few important reminders as we continue settling into our school routines: students may enter the building beginning at 7:25 a.m. Please do not drop students off before 7:20, as there is no staff on duty to supervise students before that time. Remember to pull all the way up if cars are behind you.
For afternoon dismissal, CMS begins dismissing at 2:40 p.m. If you have children at both CMS and CPS, please pick up your CMS student first before traveling to CPS to pick up siblings. This will help us keep traffic moving and ensure students are picked up safely and efficiently. All car riders should be picked up no later than 3:00 p.m.

Please remember our dress code expectations. We know the weather is warm. Shorts should be mid-thigh length (finger tip test). If your student is dress coded, we will call for a change of clothes and have them wait in ISS. Please help us with this policy.

Please also take a moment to review the CMS Parent/Student Handbook available on our school website so everyone is familiar with our expectations and procedures for the year. This has been updated as of 9/4/26.

Fridays are for fun art projects with Mrs. Hartley, open House Store w/ song requests, and duty free lunch for our teachers! Thank you Mr. David and Coach Kellum for cooking!

THIS WEEK IN CMS ATHLETICS

It was a great week to be part of the Tribe!

🏐 Girls Volleyball worked hard this week, and it was great to see our athletes back on the court competing and representing CMS!

🏈 Our football team hit the field for the jamboree and got their first taste of competition as they prepare for the season ahead.

We also welcomed our families for our Parent & Student-Athlete Meeting as we kicked off another year of CMS Athletics. Thank you to our families for partnering with us and supporting our student-athletes!

👟 COMING UP NEXT WEEK:
Cross Country gets us started with their first HOME meet of the season on Tuesday! Come out and cheer on the Tribe!

Save the date! Our back to school dance is next Friday, September 11th after school until 5:30 PM. This is for grades 6-8 only. Tickets are $10 and snacks will be provided. Students can pay for tickets starting on Tuesday, September 8th or on schoolcash online now.

CMS Jamboree 2026! 🏈
Thank you to all the teams that helped us kick off football season today and everyone that came out to watch!

Special thank you to our Chocowinity Fire Dept & EMS for helping with parking and ensuring we had safety measures in place for the extreme heat.

Special thank you to our amazing concession stand volunteers from Ignite church and Mr. Bailey for grilling.

Due to the threat of extreme heat and keeping all players and fans safe we have pushed back the Jamboree to 6:30pm! But football is still on! Admission is $5. Concessions will be sold. And some good football will be played! We look forward to seeing all our football fans tomorrow!

Mr. Williams will be at CMS tomorrow morning for our DMOP Interest Meeting! 7:30 in the CMS gym. Students can grab breakfast and head to the gym if interested in joining.

We are grateful for the leadership, dedication, and commitment Sam brings to DMOP and to the young men we serve.
