Voluntary Water Conservation Now in Effect
On behalf of the Town of Sullivan, I would like to inform residents that the
Onondaga County Water Authority (OCWA) has transitioned from
mandatory to voluntary water conservation for customers affected by the
recent break in a large-diameter transmission main.
OCWA has completed repairs to the main with the installation of a new
replacement pipe. The newly installed section has been filled and pressurized,
and water quality testing is currently underway. This testing will continue
until all required regulatory standards are met and the water is confirmed safe
for customer use. Once testing is complete, normal system flows will be
restored.
During this period of voluntary conservation, OCWA is asking customers to
remain mindful of their water usage. Voluntary conservation will remain in
effect until the Eastern Reservoir, which serves the affected communities, is
restored to normal operating levels. This is expected to occur later this week.
While voluntary conservation is in effect,
OCWA is requesting that car
washes located within the affected communities limit operations to a
maximum of 10 hours per day.
Voluntary water conservation is currently in effect for the following
municipalities:
1. Town of DeWitt (including the Village of East Syracuse and customers
served by the DeWitt Water System)
2. Town of Manlius (including the Villages of Minoa, Fayetteville, and
Manlius)
3. Town of Pompey
4. Town of Lenox (including the Village of Canastota)
5. Town of Lincoln
6. Town of Sullivan (including the Village of Chittenango)
