Incident Report: Accident with Injuries upgraded to Accident with entrapment.

June 5th at 2216 hours Stations 3,4 were alerted for an accident with injury in the area of Mosquito Creek Bridge on Chincoteague Road. While units were enroute the call was upgraded to an accident with entrapment with a vehicle in the water. Ambulance 3-0, Engine 3-4, Rescue 3, and Rescue 4 all responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Chief 3 established command, crews descended to the vehicle and determined that the driver of the vehicle was priority 4. At that time Chief 3 initiated a primary search of the area and advised VDOT and Chincoteague PD to Close Chincoteague Road. Road closure must occur for VSP accident reconstruction teams. We were able to confirm that it was a single occupant with the help of Coast Guard Sector Chincoteague and other resources who were very quick to respond and answer. Virginia State Police, initiated their documentation while a vessel from Virginia Marine Resources Commission was launched and brought to the scene to remove the occupant. Once on scene, removal was able to take place and the occupant was successfully removed from the vehicle and placed into a VMRC vessel for transport from the scene. The crash was then subjected to the medical examiner and state police for investigation. Then the process of vehicle removal started, Barnes Towing was able to get a good pull on the vehicle but the town water line running beside the bridge protruded in the upward path of the vehicle, after a few attempts they were able to get the vehicle up and over the bridge jersey wall. Vehicles were removed, roadway cleaned, units cleared the scene around 0250.

Many thanks goes to Atlantic Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, their seamless work on any calls is always top notch.

We would also like to thank US Coast Guard station Chincoteague for responding in such a timely manner and assisting in a search for other occupants.

VMRC, responded and utilized their vessel for patient transport back to a dock, in the dark navigating is very difficult and they did an exemplary job in a timely fashion.

We would also like to thank VSP, Barnes Towing, and VDOT for responding and doing their best with a difficult recovery and lengthy incident.

We extend our thoughts to the family and friends of the deceased individual, and to all witnesses involved in this tragic event.

Come see some of the guys today at Ace! They are there till 2pm with Posters, Patches, and Challenge Coins!

An update on Foal #59 out of Precious Jewel who was rounded up Sunday

Due to an advanced infection at the umbilical opening causing sepsis, the infection spread too rapidly. The vet and staff fought hard for this little guy and he unfortunately could not overcome the illness. He was humanely euthanized to prevent unnecessary suffering.

As with all foals it is hard losing them but fortunately our vets are learning more about why these things are happening, the symptoms, the bloodwork, different important timings which will help us help foals in the future.
