FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

South Abington Township Police Department.

🚨 Arrest 🚨

The South Abington Township Police Department filed criminal charges against Raymond Cupinski, a 61-year-old Plymouth man, following an investigation into an alleged road rage incident that occurred on May 16, 2026, in the Shady Lane Road Tunnel.

South Abington Police were dispatched after receiving reports of a disturbance involving two vehicles inside the one-lane tunnel. An 81-year-old woman was traveling through the tunnel when an oncoming vehicle allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way and entered the tunnel from the opposite direction.

Investigators determined that the driver,
Cupinski, of the oncoming vehicle, exited his vehicle and approached the victim's car. Witness statements and video evidence allegedly show the suspect striking the victim's vehicle multiple times, using force against the driver's side door, verbally threatening the victim, and physically assaulting her. The victim reported being struck in the head several times during the confrontation.

A witness who observed the incident remained on scene and later provided video footage to investigators. Additional
surveillance footage from nearby locations assisted in the investigation
identifying the suspect vehicle and its operator.

Following a review of witness statements, surveillance video, and other evidence, South Abington Township Police filed charges including:

* Terroristic Threats
* Simple Assault
* Harassment
* Disorderly Conduct
* Traffic-related offenses

Detectives from the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with the Hanover Police Department, assisted the South Abington Police in the apprehension of Cupinski.

Cupinski was arraigned by Magistrate Paul Keeler and remanded to the Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
