This morning, just after 0800 hrs, District 3 was alerted to a train derailment between Kolander Rd and the Jefferson/Hardin County line. Jefferson County ESD1, Jefferson County S.O. and Emergency Management all responded. Beaumont PD was called to assist with their drone to assist in analyzing the incident. Fortunately after analyzing the incident, it was found that there were no hazardous materials involved, however there are a few leaking beef tallow and corn oil. There is no threat to the public and the derailment is in an isolated area. Union Pacific representatives are on scene and crews are converging on the area to get the situation cleaned up. District 3 crews are on the scene of a single vehicle 18 wheeler accident on Hwy 326 just North of US 90. The driver suffered a medical emergency and ran off the roadway into a pasture at Doguet Ranch. The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation by Acadian Ambulance Texas. District 3 is remaining on scene while environmental crews off load fuel to prevent fuel from spilling when the towing service recovers the truck. Please use caution when traveling in the area to and from H-J campuses. We do not have a determination on how long clean up will take.

Today, just after 1 PM, District 3 units were dispatched to a house fire in the 1100 block of Yorkshire Drive. Upon arrival crews found a single story residential dwelling with heavy fire to a garage and extending into the attic. Crews made an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control quickly and had an established water supply thanks to new hydrants installed by Meeker Water District purchased by District 3. Crews determined that the home was unoccupied and vacant. Upon investigation, it was determined that the fire was set by two juveniles. Charges are being pursued by the JCSO. No injuries were reported. District 3 was assisted by Jefferson County ESD1 and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Last night, District 3 hosted a training on electric vehicles and battery storage facilities taught by Tesla. Several agencies from around the area were there to learn techniques for dealing with emergencies involving this emerging technology. Tesla emergency response representatives gave best practices and lessons learned from agencies across the nation. A special thanks to Jody Herrera for setting up this training and to Our Lady of Sorrows Church for generously allowing us to utilize their hall for the group to learn.
