🚨 DON’T GET SCAMMED 🚨

• They request payment in unusual ways, such as gift cards, cryptocurrency (Bitcoin), wire transfers, or cash left for a courier to pick up.er payment methods.

Scammers are skilled. They know how to sound convincing, create urgency, and pressure people into making quick decisions. Every day, people of all ages and backgrounds fall victim to scams because the criminals behind them are well-practiced and persuasive.

⚠️ Know the Warning Signs of a Scam:
• The caller, texter, or email sender makes the matter seem urgent.
• They claim there is a serious problem that you should already have known about if it were legitimate.
• They tell you not to discuss the matter with family, friends, your bank, or law enforcement.
• They request payment in unusual ways such as gift cards, cryptocurrency (Bitcoin), wire transfers, or cash left for a courier to pick up.
• They ask “verification” questions to obtain personal or financial information.
• They sound professional, confident, and prepared because they have rehearsed their script.

🛡️ Protect Yourself:
• Don’t answer calls from unknown numbers. Let them go to voicemail.
• Verify any claimed problem by contacting the organization directly using a phone number from a statement, official website, or other trusted source.
• Never provide personal information, passwords, PINs, or account numbers to someone who contacts you unexpectedly.
• Be suspicious of anyone demanding immediate payment or threatening consequences if you do not act right away.
• Talk to a trusted friend, family member, financial institution, or law enforcement if something doesn’t seem right.
• Remember: legitimate businesses and government agencies will not demand payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, or cash pickups.

💡 When in doubt, check it out. Taking a few extra minutes to verify a situation could save you thousands of dollars and prevent identity theft.

If you believe you have been the victim of a scam, contact your financial institution immediately and report the incident to law enforcement.

Not every electric bike is legally considered an e-bike in Wisconsin.

Before you ride, know the difference:

• Class 1 e-bike: Pedal assist only, up to 20 mph
• Class 2 e-bike: Throttle + pedal assist, up to 20 mph
• Class 3 e-bike: Pedal assist only, up to 28 mph, rider must be age 16 or older

In Wisconsin, Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes must have functional pedals and a motor rated at 750 watts or less.

Electric dirt bikes and other off-highway e-motos are different. They are not considered Class 1, 2, or 3 e-bikes under state law and are generally not allowed on bike lanes, sidewalks, trails, or public roads unless they meet separate legal requirements.

Ride smart and ride legal:
• Wear a helmet
• Use lights and reflective gear when riding at night
• Obey traffic laws and signals
• Yield to pedestrians
• Use bike lanes and paths where allowed
• Keep your e-bike in safe working condition

Please take a few minutes to learn what you’re riding before heading out. A safer community starts with informed riders.

FOUND SCOOTER!
A youth scooter was found in the male bathroom this morning at Darboy park. All the owner has to do is call the Calumet County Sheriff's Office (or stop into the Village Hall) and ask to speak with the Harrison Deputy. A description will be required in order for the deputy release the property.

⚠️Parents, please talk with your kids about electric scooter safety. Please discuss helmet use, safe speeds, and stopping at stop signs.

Riders should know where scooters are allowed, yield to pedestrians and bicyclists, give a signal when passing, and remember that only one person may ride at a time. Riders under 16 must wear a helmet.

Ride smart and help keep our community safe.

⚠️ PUBLIC AWARENESS NOTICE – EMAIL SCAMS / “SPOOFING” EMAILS ⚠️

The Village of Harrison has recently become aware of fraudulent emails targeting residents, builders, and property owners involved in public meetings, permits, or agenda items.

These emails may appear legitimate and can include:
• Real project addresses
• Parcel numbers
• Meeting dates
• Contractor or applicant names
• Village logos or staff names

Please remember:
❌ The Village will NEVER ask you to submit payments, passwords, or sensitive information through unexpected email links.

Before clicking links or sending documents:
✔️ Verify the sender’s email address carefully
✔️ Contact Village staff directly using the phone number listed on our official website
✔️ When in doubt, call us first

Scammers often use publicly available information from meeting packets and public records to make emails appear authentic.

If you receive a suspicious message claiming to be from the Village of Harrison, please contact Village Hall before responding.

Thank you for helping keep our community informed and safe online.

The Village of Harrison, WI seller’s permit is in place to help keep you from being scammed.

⬇️In the comments is a link on how you have three days to cancel a contract from door to door sales.

Heads up, neighbors!

Door-to-door solicitors and salespeople may be active in the Village from time to time. If someone comes to your door, please use caution before agreeing to anything.

Please remember:
· Ask to see identification

· Ask to see their required Village permit/badge (must provide at the request of any citizen or law enforcement)

· Don’t feel pressured to make a decision on the spot

· Do not share personal or financial information unless you are comfortable and confident that the person is legitimate

· If something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to say no and close the door

If a solicitor is unable to provide a required Village permit, or if you have any questions or concerns about suspicious activity, please contact the Village of Harrison at 920-989-1062, or [email protected]. If you ever feel unsafe, call law enforcement right away.

Please help us look out for one another, especially neighbors who may be more vulnerable to scams or high-pressure sales.
