Hey Calumet - Happy Earth Day! We know the perfect ways for you to give back to the planet that gives us so much!

Plant NATIVE trees, shrubs, & flowers! Pollinators need native plants and our native plants need them too. Consider stopping by our tree and shrub sale next week!

Eat & shop locally. Support your neighbors and reduce environmental impacts from shipping!

Unplug unused electronics & turn off unnecessary lights. You'd be surprised how much electricity your appliances use when they're plugged in, even when not in use. Bonus - that's extra money back in your pocket too!

This week has been one for the record books. With major flooding across the state, including northeastern Wisconsin, it’s hard to imagine getting out into the fields anytime soon. However, while doing field checks this week, we noticed a difference in soil erosion between fields managed with conservation practices like cover crops and no-till, compared to conventional fields that are bare and experience heavy tillage. Instead of water rushing off a field, a living cover crop acts as a water pump, pulling water into the soil profile. This not only helps reduce nutrient and soil loss, but it also helps store water for later in the season (yes, we will likely be dry at some point this summer). These practices improve a farm’s resiliency, while also reducing soil erosion and downstream flooding…a win-win for everyone!
