Eagle buys back a 60-bed medium security facility for $1 million. Is this what we need for Cool Refuge in our inner cities?

Eagle Companies EDS System completes turnkey relocation of a 60-bed split-gender detention facility from Decatur County, Indiana, to the Island of St. Croix. This facility is in full compliance with all International Detention Standards. The facility was originally built in 2019 and was resold by Eagle to the U.S. Virgin Islands Bureau of Prisons in 2023.

The facility consists of 8 sections with a total weight of #225,500 lbs. Structural calculations are certified to meet Miami-Dade's tropical wind load capacity of 175 mph. This design is consistent with Eagle's other projects in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, and the Dominican Republic. Despite challenging site conditions, the Eagle team navigated clearance restrictions and successfully staged the sections off-site at the port. The commissioning process is underway and is expected to be completed within 3-4 weeks.

The (EDS) Eagle Detention System is an affordable alternative to traditional detention housing that meets all local, state, federal, and international standards. Our heavy all-welded steel design allows for a wide range of design options and floor plans to meet your specific space application. Typical configurations include dormitories, holding cells, dayrooms, classrooms, ADA-approved cells, and minimum, medium, and maximum-security housing. Our pod assembly follows the specifications required to convert to (Aii) Airborne Infectious Isolation, which we provided to the Dilley, Texas Family Center operated by Core Civic. Our thermal ambient insulation package also provides a cool refuge by retaining low-humidity, conditioned air.
