The Hardeman county commissioners have placed all of Hardeman county including the City Of Chillicothe Texas in a burn ban Effective immediately. A violation of this order will result in a citation not to exceed $500.

fireworks notice for the City Of Chillicothe. 

The Chillicothe Police Department has received numerous complaints from residents regarding the possession and use of fireworks within the city limits. As of today, Friday the 3rd, I have personally received nine separate complaints concerning fireworks being discharged inside the city.

To this point, throughout the week I have attempted to address these complaints through education and verbal warnings. However, I have received all the complaints I intend to receive on this matter from this point forward. 

Effective immediately, my officers will no longer be issuing warnings for violations involving the unlawful possession or discharge of fireworks within the City of Chillicothe. Specifically the Texas local government code 217.042 and City Of Chillicothe ordinance number 09141998A. Individuals found in violation should expect enforcement action in accordance with applicable city ordinances, Texas law and a fine not to exceed $500.00

I appreciate the cooperation of those who have complied voluntarily and ask everyone to help keep our community safe by celebrating responsibly and respecting the law.

The Chillicothe Police Department and Chief Robert Crews extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Keith Horn.

Keith was a longtime resident of Chillicothe and a friend to everyone he met. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to lend a kind word, a helping hand, or share a story with those around him. His presence in our community will be deeply missed.

On a personal note, Keith was a lifelong friend of mine. I had the privilege of knowing him for many years, and like so many others in our community, I will greatly miss his friendship, his stories, and his unmistakable personality.

Graveside services for Keith Horn will be held at the Chillicothe Cemetery on Friday at 12:00 p.m.

Please keep the Horn family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The Chillicothe Police Department and the citizens of Chillicothe will miss Keith dearly.

Hey everyone, it’s Beck! 😊

I know it’s early, but I wanted to give everyone a heads-up about this year’s Candy With A Cop! The event will be held on October 24th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and I’m excited to bring it back again this year.

I’m officially starting to accept donations so I can begin getting everything organized and secured, including the bounce house, food, and other activities.

This event means a lot to me because this community means a lot to me — especially the kids. Seeing their smiling faces and watching the community come together is what it’s all about. 🧡

I’ll also be reaching out to other agencies again this year to come join in on the fun, food, and community fellowship.
So far, we’ll have:
• Face painting
• A bounce house
• Train rides
• Food
…and I’m looking into adding even more fun activities this year for the kids to enjoy!

The Chillicothe Police Department received a significant number of complaints from citizens regarding the ongoing railroad crossing issues within the city. In a span of approximately an hour and a half alone, 18 separate calls were received concerning blocked crossings and traffic disruptions.

Throughout the day, I, Chief Crews worked extensively to address these concerns by contacting BNSF management, railroad supervisors, state representatives, and other appropriate officials in an effort to seek answers and pursue a resolution for our community.

At this time, railroad operations and crossing regulations fall primarily under federal oversight, which limits local authority in these situations. However, please know that your concerns are being heard, documented, and actively communicated to the appropriate parties.

The Chillicothe Police Department fully understands the frustration these prolonged railroad blockages create for our citizens. These situations not only inconvenience the public, but also directly impact emergency response operations. Blocked crossings can delay law enforcement, fire department, and EMS personnel from responding to 911 calls and other emergencies in an effective and timely manner. We will continue making every effort possible to advocate for our community and seek improvements moving forward.

Last but not least,

Margie Perkins. Although around here, most of us just know her as Nana.

Margie is one of the kindest, most supportive, and caring individuals you could ever hope to meet. She is a lifelong resident of Chillicothe and the surrounding area, and alongside her husband Roy, has successfully operated a large-scale farming operation for many years. She has also enjoyed breeding and racing horses, which honestly explains a lot, she has been keeping fast things and hard-headed things in line for quite some time now.

Since 2004, Margie has faithfully served the Chillicothe Police Department as our department secretary and court administrator. Somehow, she manages to keep all of us in line… which is really no surprise, because most folks learn at a young age that you simply do not cross your Nana. And I can personally confirm, even as Chief of Police, that rule still applies.

Margie is a tremendous asset to this department and to our community. There are not many things she doesn’t know, and she brings a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and experience to everything she does. We are incredibly fortunate to have her, and we love her dearly.

Margie doesn’t have Facebook, so if you see this post, make sure you mention it to her. And since I currently don’t have any photos of her, one of these days I’ll probably have to sneak one and update this post.

Let’s recognize Michelle Stovall, who has been serving the City of Chillicothe since 2018 and somehow manages to keep the everyday chaos of city business from turning into complete mayhem.

Michelle has been a longtime resident of Chillicothe and is our City Secretary/Administrator. If you’ve ever wondered who keeps things organized, answers the questions, handles the paperwork, and somehow keeps the wheels from falling off around here... there’s a very good chance it’s Michelle.

She is well-versed in city business, dedicated to this community, and does a wonderful job for the City of Chillicothe every single day. Around here, “city chaos coordinator” may not be her official title, but it probably ought to be.

Outside of work, Michelle enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and her parents, which is probably a nice break from keeping the rest of us all in line.

We appreciate Michelle’s hard work, knowledge, and commitment to our community. The City of Chillicothe is better because of her.
