Guided by ethical principles and accountability, ODOT works to improve safety, enhance travel and advance economic development. As a $2.8 billion enterprise, the department wisely invests in its core services of snow and ice removal, annual construction program and highway maintenance operations. Situated in south central Ohio, ODOT District 9 is comprised of Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties. District 9 is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 3,795 lane miles in its eight-county region. In addition, it maintains 1,157 bridges, including an Ohio River crossing at Portsmouth and one at Ironton. Further, District 9 is the only district in ODOT in which there are no interstate lane miles.

Ross County | Building A Better Bridge Street

This week has involved a lot of earthwork and demolition of the existing northbound lanes to prepare for reconstruction.

Crews continued to build up the area along the east side of Bridge Street in front of the Nourse Chillicothe Automall. This will accommodate the additional northbound lane and the shared use path. Work to install the catch basins and storm drains along the east side of Bridge Street also continues.

At the northern end of the project, topsoil has been added behind the curbing along the southbound lanes of Bridge Street. Crews also completed installation and activation of the new traffic signals on Bridge Street at the entrance to Chillicothe Mall/Zane Plaza.

In the week since the new traffic pattern was put into place, we’ve noticed improvements in traffic flow as drivers have gotten adjusted.

As construction progresses, businesses along the corridor remain open and accessible. For travel scenarios, FAQs, and additional project details, visit transportation.ohio.gov/BridgeStreet.

Ross County | Building A Better Bridge Street

This week, crews made significant changes to the traffic patterns on Bridge Street. Once the new traffic pattern was in place, crews immediately began milling and removing the old roadway in the northbound lanes in preparation for the new concrete. Maps of the new traffic pattern and updated travel scenarios have been posted at transportation.ohio.gov/BridgeStreet.

Crews also placed fill for the new embankment, which will serve as the foundation for both the future shared use path and the U.S. 35 eastbound on‑ramp from Bridge Street.

As construction progresses, businesses along the corridor remain open and accessible. For travel scenarios, FAQs, and additional project details, visit transportation.ohio.gov/BridgeStreet.
