U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command (RTC) Photo of the Week.

Each week we will post a picture from the U.S. Navy's only Boot Camp which highlights how we turn civilians into basically trained Sailors.

Recruits participate in a 5-minute prone float exercise inside the USS Indianapolis Combat Training Pool at Recruit Training Command (RTC). The 5-minute prone float is part of the 3rd-class swim qualification comprising an additional 10-foot platform jump and a 50-meter swim. The training at the combat pool also includes the abandon ship scenario, which requires donning a life preserver, stepping off of a 10-foot platform, and swimming to and entering a life raft. All recruits are required to pass the swim qualification on their journey to become Sailors in the world’s strongest Navy. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy’s only boot camp.
