I have received some of the most sincere messages in the last few days since the election. However, I went straight into a two day training out of town for Peer support facilitation so It took me a bit to put my thoughts together.
When I was first asked to run I was shocked because I’m a boots on the ground advocate that works to help humans that are struggling, and I didn’t know how that would correlate to a seat on council. The best I could come up with, is that it would give me a louder voice and just possibly help create some empathy in the people at the table with me. In no way did I have high expectations of winning the race, because many of the people I help don’t live in my ward or aren’t housed and capable of voting. So, all I could do is walk for miles introducing myself and try to let people have the chance to get to know me.
I said I didn’t win the race, but believe me when I say, I won in so many other ways! I have had the chance to meet and work with some of the most amazing and dedicated people in our community,
and I’ve been able to share with more people about the struggles I see everyday which has led to more support for those struggling and maybe a little more understanding.
Believe me the negativity that surrounds politics would’ve been a struggle for me, but I would’ve done it because that’s what Advocates do ….they have to step out of their comfort zone a lot to create change. I’m not sure if I will ever try again, that’s to be determined at a later date. But this in no way will deters me from being the voice for people that need me to be because if nothing else this has taught me that Chillicothe can do better and we will do better….for the most part we are a resilient and loving community that has many people willing to step out of their comfort zone to help people. The work to do now is discovering how we rally that community council to be a louder voice that will not be shut down or ignored!
Thanks you so much for the support and the votes! I truly appreciate all of you 💞💞
