: The Secret "Spy Train" of Westover 🕵️‍♂️🚂

For this week's , we're taking it back to 1990 when Westover had its very own railroad with a secret Cold War mission!

The DoD and MIT’s Lincoln Lab brought the Berkshire Scenic Railway’s Locomotive 954 to the base to simulate Soviet mobile military targets. While the train rolled along the base tracks, advanced research aircraft flew overhead testing cutting-edge tracking sensors.

Once its "spy" days were over, the train became a local legend as the "Air Show Special," shuttling thousands of flightline visitors during the 1990, 1992, 1994, and 1996 Westover airshows.

Westover Reserve Citizen Airmen recently participated in a Department of War Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program event in New Orleans. This helping program is an integral part of our Air Force Reserve resiliency-readiness network.

These events ensure our families and support systems are equipped mentally, physically, and emotionally to empower our mission-ready Airmen, helping them leverage military benefits to succeed both at home and in uniform!

Safety first, mission always! ✈️🥽

439th Airlift Wing leadership joined maintainers from the 439th Maintenance Group for a walkthrough of our new hangar’s towing protocols. By validating clearances and refining our procedures beforehand, we can ensure a seamless and safe transition into our new workplace!

Westover will be conducting a routine training exercise from August 21st through the 23rd.

Training is scheduled to begin Friday morning and continue throughout the weekend. During this time, members of the local community may hear loud noises, see smoke or notice an increase in flight activity during both day and evening hours.
