LUCHA was founded in 1982 by residents of Humboldt Park, West Town and Logan Square to combat displacement and preserve affordable housing in the community. Since its founding, LUCHA has helped more than 68,000 low-to-moderate income families rent decent and affordable housing, obtain Section

8 rental assistance, purchase good homes, improve dilapidated buildings, make emergency repairs, make their home more accessible or more energy efficient, and beautify their neighborhoods. LUCHA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization

The mission of LUCHA is to provide decent and affordable housing, housing services and education to low and moderate income Latinos and other residents. LUCHA fosters community stability in neighborhoods lacking adequate housing due to discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, religion, familial status, and disability. This is done by empowering residents through education and participation, promoting affordable housing development and home ownership, rehabilitating and managing housing, providing organizing leadership and advocating for resources. LUCHA is a housing counseling agency certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the City of Chicago.

After more than nine years of service to LUCHA, we’re saying farewell—and a heartfelt thank you—to our former Co-Executive Director, Lincoln Stannard.

Since joining LUCHA in 2017, Lincoln has helped champion an era of growth and possibility for our organization and our community. From expanding access to affordable housing across Chicago's West Side to helping bring Encuentro Square to life—one of the largest and most impactful affordable housing developments in the neighborhood—his leadership has helped shape LUCHA’s continued commitment to building stronger, more resilient communities.

Throughout his time at LUCHA, Lincoln has remained deeply grounded in a simple but powerful belief: that affordable housing is about more than apartments. It’s about investing in families, creating opportunity, building community, and staying true to the principles of self-determination that brought LUCHA into existence.

As Lincoln put it: “It’s not about just the size and the numbers, but it’s about the depth of impact, and the commitment to long-term... we are part of the fabric of what makes this community resilient. I want LUCHA to be around forever."

We’re incredibly grateful for the years of vision, partnership, and dedication Lincoln has given to LUCHA. His impact will continue to be felt in the homes, families, and communities he helped make stronger.

Thank you, Lincoln, for helping LUCHA grow while always reminding us who we are—and who we’re here to serve. We wish you all the best in your next chapter! ❤️

Maria has spent the last 24 years witnessing firsthand what an affordable home with LUCHA can do-- and before that, she lived in affordable housing in Humboldt Park herself. Initiatives like Hope For Homes Day ensures that this work can carry on for another generation. 💝

💬 Maria told us: "I know firsthand how much it means to have a safe, stable place to call home and the difference it can make in someone's life. I've seen how the support helps people move forward, reach their goals, and create a better life for them and their families."

We're getting so close! 😱 Hope for Homes Day is well underway, and we're raising $3,000 for resident services that help our tenants thrive.

Truly fair housing is more than having a place to stay: it's having a place to belong. At LUCHA properties, we connect tenants with resources like career training, mental health services, compassionate case management and so much more. 💙

👭 We foster a community of neighbors who understand and care for one another, and come together to make decisions about what their homes should look like.

Help us keep giving our residents the community they deserve and make a gift for Hope for Homes Day! 💝 Find the link in the comments below.

TODAY is Hope for Homes Day! 🏡🎉 Join us in a statewide day of giving to help end homelessness and advance housing equity across Illinois.

At LUCHA, we're raising $3,000 to support resident services that make our affordable housing communities more than just a place to live—they're places where people can thrive.

For Joe, that meant a fresh start. After years in a nursing home, he found a home of his own through Association House's Nursing Home Transition Program and a LUCHA affordable apartment—giving him the freedom to rebuild his life.
