Approvals at today's Commission on Chicago Landmarks meeting included a preliminary landmark recommendation for St. Simeon Mirotočivi Serbian Orthodox Church and Serbian Hall at 3737 E. 114th St. on the East Side. Built in the late 1960s by Serbian immigrants who settled in the community following World War II, the complex features a church building with a distinct checkered and striped bi-color brick exterior — a rare example of the Serbian-Byzantine architectural style in Chicago.

The commission's Permit Review Committee approved a proposed welcome hall at the north entrance of the Museum of Science and Industry, 5700 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The addition will serve as the primary point of arrival for visitors, improving accessibility while preserving the Hyde Park museum's historical and architectural features. The building was designated a Chicago landmark in 1995.
