The morning of Monday June 2nd, two Pilsen residents were detained, both of whom work at a local business. One was detained in the residential space above his workplace, and the other was detained nearby in his home. In neither instance did the federal agents properly identify themselves or present paperwork, such as an arrest warrant.
We have identified who the two individuals are, and our team is in the process of attempting to locate where ICE is taking them to make sure their rights are being respected.
We’re sharing this condensed report to inform our community of the tactics ICE has been employing, and how we can use this knowledge to keep us prepared to defend our community from the inhumane and unlawful kidnappings the Trump administration has been executing on communities like ours.
On 6/2/25 at 8:29am, the Pilsen Migra Watch Team received a report of potential immigration enforcement with a photo of an agent in an FBI vest. Multiple members of our team responded and found 5 federal agents and 1 CPD officer near the corner of 18th St & Carpenter. They wore vests with “FBI”, “HSI”, and “Police” in yellow lettering.
On Jan 22nd, Trump’s DHS secretary enacted a policy utilizing every agency under the Department of Justice to assist in immigration raids, including the FBI and ATF, which we have often seen. With this new policy, virtually any federal agent can assist in immigration raids. CPD has strict dress rules for active duty, and it is illegal for federal agents to pose as local police. So, while a vest may say “Police”, if it has different coloring, such as yellow or green, it is highly like that it’s a federal agent and not a local police officer.
It’s also important to note that we are seeing now more agents in plain clothes, face coverings, and hoodies to try and conceal their identity. This, plus agents refusing to identify themselves, is incredibly dangerous as it opens the possibility of vigilantes impersonating them and further terrorizing our community.
We are still investigating as to why CPD was present during this federal immigration action, and if this was a potential violation of the Illinois TRUST act andChicago Welcoming City Ordinance.
According to CPD, this officer is not a member of the 12th District which covers Pilsen, and was on route to unrelated police business when they encountered the federal enforcement action. In the 6 months of operation for the current Pilsen Migra Watch Team, there’s been no clear evidence of collusion betweenCPD and immigration agents, but we will continue to gather evidence and file information requests to ensure there was no improper collaboration.
Any confirmed or suspected incidents of collaboration between CPD and federal immigration action is a violation of the Illinois TRUST act and Chicago Welcoming City Ordinance and should be reported to the CivilianOffice of Police Accountability (COPA).
The arrest of one of the men took place in the private residential area above a local business, which agents are not allowed to enter without a judicial warrant signed by a judge. It is incredibly rare for agents to have proper judicial warrants for arrest. We are including information here regarding rights for immigrants at the workplace, and encourage businesses to use this knowledge to have a plan incase federal agents show up. Organizations like ARISE Chicago have been in direct contact with the business about this and are planning a workshop soon, DM us or them for details.

La mañana del lunes 2 de junio, dos residentes de Pilsen, ambos trabajadores de un negocio local, fueron detenidos. Uno fue detenido en la vivienda situada encima de su lugar de trabajo, y el otro, en su domicilio cercano. En ninguno de los casos, los agentes federales se identificaron debidamente ni presentaron documentación, como una orden de arresto.
Hemos identificado quiénes son las dos personas y nuestro equipo está intentando localizar dónde los llevó ICE para asegurarnos de que se respeten sus derechos.
Estamos compartiendo este informe condensado para informar a nuestra comunidad sobre las tácticas que ICE ha estado empleando y cómo podemos usar este conocimiento para mantenernos preparados para defender a nuestra comunidad de los secuestros inhumanos e ilegales que la administración Trump ha estado ejecutando en comunidades como la nuestra.
El 2 de Junio a las 8:29 am, el Equipo de Vigilio a la Migra de Pilsen recibió un reporte de un posible operativo migratorio con una foto de un agente con chaleco del FBI. Varios miembros de nuestro equipo respondieron y vieron 5 agentes federales y 1 oficial del departamento de policia de Chicago (CPD) cerca de la esquina de la Calle 18 y Carpenter. Llevaban chalecos con las letras amarillas "FBI", "HSI" y "Police".
El 22 de enero, el secretario del DHS de Trump promulgó una política para utilizar a todas las agencias del Departamento de Justicia para colaborar en las redadas de inmigración, incluyendo el FBI y la ATF, algo que hemos visto con frecuencia. Con esta nueva política, prácticamente cualquier agente federal puede colaborar en las redadas de inmigración. Esto, sumado a que los agentes se niegan a identificarse, es increíblemente peligroso, ya que abre la posibilidad de que justicieros se hagan pasar por ellos y aterroricen aún más a nuestra comunidad.
Todavía estamos investigando por qué el CPD estuvo presente durante esta acción federal de inmigración y si esto fue una posible violación de la Ley TRUST de Illinois y la Ordenanza de Ciudad Sanctuaria de Chicago.
Según el CPD, este agente no pertenece al Distrito 12, que abarca Pilsen, y se dirigía a un asunto policial no relacionado cuando se topó con la acción federal. En los seis meses de funcionamiento del actual Equipo de Vigilio a la Migra de Pilsen, no ha habido pruebas claras de colusión entre el CPD y los agentes de inmigración, pero seguiremos recopilando pruebas y presentando solicitudes de información para garantizar que no haya habido una colaboración indebida.
Cualquier incidente confirmado o sospechoso de colaboración entre el CPD y una acción federal de inmigración es una violación de la Ley TRUST de Illinois y la Ordenanza de Ciudad Acogedora de Chicago y debe informarse a la Oficina Civil de Responsabilidad Policial (COPA).
El arresto de uno de los hombres se llevó acabo en la zona residencial privada ubicada sobre un negocio local, al que los agentes no pueden acceder sin una orden judicial firmada por un juez.
