Franciscan Outreach is a leading provider of homeless services in Chicago. Through five service sites, we compassionately welcome and serve men and women who are marginalized and experiencing homelessness, no matter what their life circumstances may be. Each day, we offer healthy meals to those who are hungry, a warm bed for those who need shelter, vital case management services for those who need guidance, and access to critical resources for those who need specialized assistance.

Today, we wanted to share a special update on our campaign to name the Gathering Room at our New Shelter (2508) in honor of Fr. Ed Shea, OFM. We are thrilled to share that we have surpassed 75% of our goal! Your support means so much to us.

Together, we can honor Fr. Ed in a way that reflects the depth of his impact and carries his legacy forward for years to come.

Today, Franciscan Outreach staff came together for our annual staff meeting, hosted at Deborah’s Place. This is always a meaningful opportunity to reflect, connect, share updates, and recognize the incredible dedication of our team. 💙

From frontline staff and program managers to food services, facilities, operations, administrative staff, and leadership, every member of our team plays an important role in supporting our neighbors experiencing homelessness across Chicago with dignity, compassion, and care. Hello friends!

Today, we wanted to post a special update on our campaign to name the Gathering Room at our New Shelter (2508) in honor of Fr. Ed Shea, OFM. We have surpassed the halfway point of our goal! Your support means so much to us!

On June 6, Fr. Ed celebrates the 39th anniversary of his ordination, a meaningful milestone that reflects a lifetime dedicated to serving others. The Fr. Ed Shea Gathering Room will serve as a living tribute to everything he has modeled across his ministry. Welcome. Presence. The sacred dignity of every person who walks through the door.

Together, we can honor Fr. Ed in a way that reflects the depth of his impact and carries his legacy forward for years to come.

This week’s goes out to Ann W, who made a meaningful gift in honor of Fr. Ed Shea, OFM, and in tribute to the spirit of St. Peter’s Church in the Loop, helping us celebrate his legacy through the naming of the new Gathering Room at our new shelter at 2508 W. 21st.

Franciscan Outreach is preparing to open a new, modern shelter designed to serve our guests with dignity, compassion, and care. At the heart of this space will be the Gathering Room: a welcoming place where individuals can share a meal, build community, and begin to rebuild their lives.

This tribute reflects the same spirit Fr. Ed has carried throughout his ministry. As Ann shared: “Fr. Ed stood outside of St. Peter’s in the Loop very often and befriended the homeless and stragglers. He knew them by name too, just like Jesus said in the Gospel this past weekend.”

On June 6, Fr. Ed will be celebrating the 39th anniversary of his ordination, a milestone reflecting a lifetime devoted to serving others with humility, kindness, and Franciscan compassion. Fr. Ed often greets others with the Franciscan blessing “Paz y Bien” (peace and goodwill) and that spirit will live on in this Gathering Room for years to come.
